Toukie Smith was born as Doris Smith on April 25, 1955, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. Her father was a butcher and her mother worked in a factory. She had two brothers, Willi (a prominent fashion designer, now deceased) and Norman. Smith attended the Fashion Institute of Technology.

From 1988 to 1996, she was in a romantic relationship with actor Robert De Niro. The couple had twin sons Julian Henry De Niro and Aaron Kendrick De Niro who were born through surrogacy. Smith is not a social media person in real life. This is the reason the American artiste is not active on any trending social networking site (Twitter, Facebook and Instagram). It seems as if Smith doesn’t like to reveal her personal life events to her fans and followers. Still her fans live in the hope that she will join the social media some day!

Toukie Smith began her modelling career in the year 1970, working for brands and designers like Geoffrey Beene, Chanel, Thierry Mugler, Norma Kamali, Patrick Kelly, Versace and Issey Miyake. She then modelled for many high-end magazines like ‘Cosmopolitan,’ ‘Seventeen,’ ‘Vogue,’ ‘Ebony,’ ‘Redbook’ and ‘ELLE.’ In 1987, Smith turned to acting and appeared in the crime drama ‘Miami Vice’. She then appeared in the comedy flick ‘Me and Him’.

The American model cum actress was then cast in the sitcom ‘227’ in 1989. Two years later, she did the movie ‘Talkin' Dirty After Dark. Then she had a role in the comedy-drama flick ‘I Like It Like That’. She got featured in the films ‘Joe's Apartment’ and ‘The Preacher's Wife’ in 1996. Three years later, Smith acted in the movie ‘Goosed’. The actress also owns a restaurant named ‘Toukie's’ in West Village neighborhood of New York City.
