Toni Romiti was born on March 24, 1995, in Chicago, Illinois, to Janice and Mark Anthony Romiti. She has three siblings, two sisters Irma and Christina, and one brother, Mark, Jr. Romiti’s father was Italian-American while her mother is African-American. Her father was a musician and several other members of her family are reportedly affiliated with the music industry as well.
Mark A. Romiti passed away in December 2007. He had played an important role in his daughter’s music education and was a source of her inspiration. She wanted to be a singer since she was a child. Having been brought up in Chicago, she was exposed to the rich music culture of the city. Besides idolizing Michael Jackson, the Beatles, Britney Spears, and Chris Brown, she listened to pop and EDM music because of her siblings. When she became a teenager, she started doing cover songs which ultimately led to writing her own material and putting them out on social media.
During her high school years, Romiti proved herself to be a gifted athlete. She played basketball for her school and had earned a scholarship to play D1 college ball at South Carolina Upstate. However, following the success of ‘Nothin on Me’, she quit school and returned to Chicago to concentrate on developing her music career.
Toni Romiti started her music career on social media. Initially, her main platform was the short-video sharing app Vine. She was very regular with her uploads, which were covers of various popular songs. In December 2008, she set up her YouTube account and started posting her content there as well. In time, she began to build up an audience. It was not long before she decided to write her own music, record it, and release it on social media. Romiti was still a teenager at the time.
In July 2013, she released her debut single ‘Nothin on Me’. It subsequently went viral and effectively introduced Romiti to a much larger audience. The music video for the song was released on YouTube a few days later and has garnered over 40 million views to date.
On November 19, 2015, she put out her first EP, ‘Lemonade’. Released independently, it is primarily an R&B/Soul album. There are eight tracks in the EP: ‘Nothin on Me’, ‘Miss Me’, ‘Time to Leave’, ‘Pbb’, ‘Imagine’, ‘Believe’, ‘Little Girl’, and ‘Nothin on Me’ (remix).
Her second EP, ‘Just Like You’, was released on June 3, 2016. It was also put out independently, through her own record label, and is comprised of ten songs: ‘Loyal’, ‘Eye 2 Eye’, ‘Feel the Same’, ‘Just a Friend’, ‘Bad Boy’, ‘Imma Dog Too’, ‘Got That Bomb’, ‘Want Yo Money’, ‘Fade Away’, and ‘Without Her’. ‘Imma Dog Too’ went on to become as big of a hit as ‘Nothin on Me’ and ultimately helped her secure a record deal with RCA Records.
On March 16, 2018, she released her first major-label EP ‘Tomboy’ through RCA Records. It is comprised of nine songs: ‘Who Dis’, ‘Unimpressed’, ‘Options’, ‘Boyfriend’, ‘Where’, ‘OMG’, ‘Never Thought’, ‘Slept on Me’, and ‘Girls or Boys’.
