Tessa Violet was born on March 20, 1990, in Chicago, Illinois, U.S. She was raised in Oregon, where she attended ‘Ashland High School.’ Tessa developed interest towards acting at a very young age and performed in theater during high school.
In 2007, Tessa took up a school project, for which she had to come up with a vlog. She was no stranger when it came to making a vlog as she had already created a YouTube channel. Since she had already posted a few vlogs on her channel, Tessa had no problems in acing her project.
On June 6, 2008, she graduated high school as one of the members of the ‘National Honor Society.’ By now, she had already started her career as a fashion model and had visited places like Thailand and Hong Kong as part of her modeling projects. However, Tessa soon quit modeling in order to concentrate on her social media career, which would eventually act as a launch pad for her career in music.
Soon after her graduation, Tessa shifted to Seoul, Korea, where she learnt the nuances of making a variety of videos, including music videos, stories, and skits. She then moved to New York City in 2009. Her popularity as a YouTuber had skyrocketed by then. In the same year, she won $100,000 in a competition for the most commented video on YouTuber.
In 2010, she joined hands with ‘Maker Studios’ to come up with two videos, namely ‘Star Trek Girl’ and ‘Wizard Love – feat. Heyhihello.’ Both the videos went viral on the internet, stamping Violet’s authority as a successful YouTuber and singer. With more than a million subscribers, her channel is one of the 500 most-subscribed YouTube channels.
Tessa Violet is also popular on Instagram, where she has more than 116,000 followers. With more than 150,000 followers on Twitter, Tessa enjoys her stardom on the popular microblogging site as well. She is also active on Tumblr.
Tessa had begun her musical career way back in 2008 by using her YouTube channel as a platform. She released her debut extended play ‘Days of’ in 2012. She gained prominence as a musician in 2014, when she released her hit album ‘Maybe Trapped Mostly Troubled.’ The album, which was produced by Seth Earnest, explored themes, such as love, anxiety, co-dependency, and self-worth.
After the success of ‘Maybe Trapped Mostly Troubled,’ Tessa went on a number of tours, including ‘The Living Room Tour,’ which featured Rusty Clanton. The tour had them visiting nine locations to perform live in the living rooms of random fans. While the first 30 minutes of the show had Rusty Clanton playing his original music, the next 30 minutes had Tessa playing her music.
In July 2015, Tessa and Rusty toured the western half of the States in what was dubbed as ‘Return of the Living Room Tour.’ In 2016, she featured in ‘The TransAtlantic Tour,’ alongside artists like Jon Cozart, Dodie Clark, and Rusty Clanton. She also accompanied fellow YouTuber and singer Bry O'Reilly for a tour in the United Kingdom.
On October 14, 2016, she released an extended play titled ‘Halloway.’ The EP had five songs, including the hit single ‘Dream.’ In 2018, she released another album titled ‘Bad Ideas.’ Tessa Violet has been on a number of tours, thanks to her collaboration with various musicians and social media stars.
