Teairra Mari has been known for her link-ups and romantic relationships over the years that she has been active. She has been linked with Cisco Rosado, Shad Moss, Pleasure P Cooper, Lil’ Wayne and Ray J.
She is known to have troubles with alcohol and drug abuse. First it was the career debacle in form of her first unsuccessful album. And then her bad breakups and a sick mother further contributed to her troubled mental health. She has been to rehabilitation centre to resolve her issues.
Teairra Mari was born in Detroit, Michigan, USA on 2nd December 1987 and inherited the love for music from her musician grandmother. She was a lesser known musician but her love for music was enough for Teairra to fall in love with the art-form.
Her parents pushed her towards a career in music observing the talent she had even when she was just a kid. Well before she approached her teenage, she performed on stage on many occasions to an overwhelming general response. Hopping between different Michigan schools, she kept her musical passion alive and by the time she was 12, she was a known talent around her locality and schools.
Some fateful turn of events got her in touch with Big Mike and Ed K, two popular rappers and for the next few years, they took the responsibility of growing Mari as a singer. Under their guidance, she turned out to be phenomenal talent and by the year 2003, at the age of 14, she was already working with some of the biggest names in the business.
She eventually released her debut EP titled ‘Get Away’ in 2003, which turned out to be a local success. It was a major hit across the Michigan bars, cafes and clubs. When Jay Z came across her, he immediately decided to mentor her and under his company Roc-A-Fella records, she was all set to release her first official album.
Teairra Mari, at the age of 16, was on the verge of achieving overwhelming success with the release of her debut self titled album. The album was being produced under the mentorship of a major name in the industry Jay Z and was a sure shot recipe for success.
A couple of singles from the album titled ‘No Daddy’ and ‘Phone Booth’ became chart topping successes. The music videos were also being loved and the album itself reached the top 5 of the Billboard 200. Despite the commercial appreciation and a decent sales number of 2,48,000 copies, the album was considered a commercial failure and it was all set to become a major blow for the young musician.
She had already started the production of her second album, when she got a phone call mentioning that she had been dropped from the label in 2006. She was also during the final few months of her high school graduation and this blow hit her very hard, threatening her musical career before it even started.
Two years later, she came into the news once again after she announced the release of her second album, titled ‘At that Point’. The album featured some known rappers such as Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross and Kanye West. While the album was never officially released, almost all the songs from it had been either leaked or released. Her music was loved by the audiences and she received applauds for reinventing herself.
In 2009, Teairra released her debut mixtape, titled ‘Don’t Make me Cause a Scene’, which was a success. She followed this success with another mixtape in 2010, titled ‘Point of No Return’. She landed the support of some big names and herself became a well known female rapper and got compared to Rihanna and Nicki Minaj, who were considered to be the best among their contemporaries.
