Tamzin Outhwaite was born as Tamzin Maria Outhwaite on 5 November 1970 in Ilford, London, England, UK, to parents Anna and Colin Frank Outhwaite. She has two younger brothers, Kes and Jake. She studied at Trinity Catholic High School and later on attended Stagestruck Theatre Company and Sylvia Young Theatre School. After this, Outhwaite studied drama and dance at the London Studio Centre. From 2006 to 2014, the actress was married to Tom Ellis and had two daughters: Florence Elsie Ellis and Marnie Mae Ellis. After being married for eight years, the couple put an end to their relationship and got divorced.

Tamzin Outhwaite began her acting career in theatre, appearing in productions like ‘Oliver’ and ‘Grease’. She then starred in the TV series ‘The Bill’ and ‘Men Behaving Badly’ and was later cast as Melanie Owen in the drama ‘EastEnders’. After this, Outhwaite did the television flick ‘Final Demand’ in 2003. The same year, she began playing Sgt. Jo McDonagh in the drama ‘Red Cap’. Soon after this, the actress got featured in the TV movies ‘When I'm 64’, ‘Frances Tuesday’ and ‘Walk Away and I Stumble’.

She then joined the cast of the series ‘Vital Signs’ in 2006. That year, she also began appearing in a lead role in the show ‘Hotel Babylon’. Outhwaite then did the movie ‘Radio Cape Cod’ in 2008. She also played Rose Chamberlain in the series ‘The Fixer’ the same year. Then after doing the miniseries ‘Paradox’ and the TV film ‘Fast Freddie, the Widow and Me’, she appeared in the movie ‘Great Expectations’ in 2012. A year later, the British artiste got the opportunity to play the role of DCI Sasha Miller in the show ‘New Tricks’.
