Sofie Dossi

Sofie Dossi was born on June 21, 2001, in Cypress, California, to Abir and Mike Dossi. She has an older brother named Zak. Her mother is a Pilates instructor while her father owns a company. Since she was a child, she has loved gymnastics and dance and she ultimately became a contortionist as it perfectly combines the two. The fact that she has a flexible back proved to be an advantage. She became aware of her uniqueness after she watched the performance of the contortionist from ‘Cirque du Soleil’ and realised that she could do it as well. She was 12 years old at the time.

She is predominantly self-taught and grew up watching TV by placing her head on her feet because she found it to be “fun”. She revealed in an interview with ABC News that she would watch ‘SpongeBob SquarePants’ or ‘Tom & Jerry’ and would often pull her feet over her head on the couch and enjoy her time like that.

Having been self-taught, Dossi doesn’t simply practice her moves; she also comes up with new ones. The family presently lives in Southern California. The living room of their house has been turned into Dossi’s training area. There is no couch in the room any more as it is filled with mats and Dossi’s equipment.

Sofie Dossi appeared in the 11th season of NBC’s reality competition series ‘America’s Got Talent’ that premiered on May 31, 2016. Nick Cannon returned as the host, as did three of the four judges from the previous season: Howie Mandel, Mel B, and Heidi Klum. Creator Simon Cowell stepped in to take Howard Stern’s place as the fourth judge for the season. ‘America’s Got Talent’ aired 23 episodes that season. The season finale was broadcast on 14 September.

Dossi made her first appearance on the show in round two, in which Reba McEntire was serving as the guest judge. Her first performance, which included eating an apple and shooting an arrow with her feet, received positive votes from all the four judges. However, it was her second performance of the night that earned her the golden buzzer from McEntire, which effectively promoted her to the live shows.

She next performed in the week two of the quarter-finals and subsequently advanced to the semi-finals. In the second week of the semi-finals, Dossi was the ninth contestant to perform and made it to the finals via “dunkin’ save.”

Dossi’s last performance on the show took place on 13 September, in the first round of the finals. She finished the season as one of the top ten contestants. Singer and ukulele player Grace VanderWaal was the eventual winner, with the magician and mentalist duo The Clairvoyants being the runner-up.

Dossi’s appearance on ‘America’s Got Talent’ started off her career as a public figure. She has made three separate appearances on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ (2016-17). She also appeared on ‘The Doctors’, ‘Good Mythical Morning’ (2018), ‘Physics Girl’ (2018), and ‘The Talent Show’ (2018). Furthermore, Dossi has been featured on billboards and has performed live all over the world.
