Sofia Hublitz was born on June 1, 1999, in Richmond, Virginia, to Keiran Lawrence Gaughan and Sosie Hublitz. In her youth, Hublitz, along with her family, moved around a lot. They first relocated to North Carolina and then to New York, where they currently reside. Hublitz’s father passed away in May 2018. She announced the news on her Instagram account, which since seems to have been deleted.
Hublitz studied at the Professional Children’s School in Manhattan, New York and was encouraged to pursue her artistic aspirations since she was a child. Besides attending a regular school, she has also trained under an acting coach.
Her mother is a renowned chef and owner of several restaurants. She is associated with multiple thriving restaurants in Charlottesville, Virginia, the OBX of North Carolina, and Millie's Diner, in Richmond, Virginia.
In an interview with a German news outlet, Sofia Hublitz stated that despite her mother’s achievements in the catering industry, she never had any inclination to be a chef herself. She dubbed her attitude to her mother’s profession as a form of rebellion.
Prior to her appearance on ‘MasterChef Junior’, she gave another interview on October 6, 2013, in which she said that acting was her dream career, be it on theater or television. She went on to state that she hoped ‘MasterChef Junior’ would get “the ball rolling”.
The American competitive reality TV series ‘MasterChef Junior’ premiered on September 27, 2013, on Fox and was inspired by the concept of the U.K. series ‘Junior MasterChef’. The contestants are all children or teenagers in the age group 8–13 and the judges are four of biggest names in the catering industry, Gordon Ramsay, Christina Tosi, Graham Elliot, and Joe Bastianich.
Hublitz was twelve years old when she made her appearance in the first episode of the first season of the show, ‘Top 24 Compete’, which aired on September 27, 2013. She would eventually make it to the top ten before being eliminated. In one episode, Hublitz committed an error during a baking challenge and subsequently started crying. Noticing this, Ramsay approached her. He did not simply console her but also helped her in starting everything over again. While her stay on the show was relatively short, she managed to win over the hearts of the majority of the show’s audience.
Hublitz started off her acting career in 2014 by portraying the recurring character Danielle Hoffman in FX’s comedy-drama ‘Louie’. This was the first time she worked with the controversial comedian Louis C.K. Hublitz appeared in two episodes of season four, ‘In the Woods: Part 1’ and ‘In the Woods: Part 2’. The show abruptly ended after FX terminated their contract with Louis C.K.'s production company, Pig Newton, in November 2017, following the confirmation of his sexual misconduct allegations.
