Sky Williams' tryst with video gaming was a means to escape harsh realities and depression. After he started playing ‘Super Smash Brothers’, he was so hooked to the game that he ended up participating in competitive gaming. With the aim of becoming the top performer, he started to attend gaming tournaments every weekend. Even though he continued to play video games, becoming a popular ‘League of Legends’ player, he got his first taste of fame as a comedian. During his school years, he became so good at improvised humor, that he participated in a school talent show and won the trophy performing original jokes. He worked for six years as a server at Applebees, where he learnt about the Flappers comedy competition by chance one day. He participated in the competition and came fourth in the final among 400 competitors. He eventually started posting videos on his YouTube account, but the first video that went viral was the one that he had posted on Reddit, ranting about fellow League of Legends gamers. The video climbed to the top of the Reddit page quickly, and made him an internet sensation within two months.

The Meteoric Rise To Stardom

Sky Williams became depressed about certain things in his life when he was in the sixth grade. Around this time he realized that he was gay, and knowing how his parents' culture was against this, he was afraid to even come out to his family. His personality started to change, and his classmates started to pick on him. Seeing that he is losing popularity, even his friends started to ditch him, which made his depression worse. However, as he sought refuge in his gaming community, he realized that his co-gamers didn't care whether he was a loser or a gay, and rather shared the same passion about the game. Feeling lonely at home and school, he started to socialize with his gamer friends by trying to make them laugh. He was inspired by watching standup comedy on Comedy Central, and determined to become a comedian himself. He would often make random jokes and see what makes people laugh, only to note it down and try it to a different audience. After winning a talent show at school, he went to his mother straight to tell her that he aims to become a comedian. However, he didn't get the support he had expected from his family, and ended up moving out to live on his own after a heated conversation with his stepfather. He eventually proved himself right by achieving success, both as a comedian and a gamer.

What Makes Sky Williams So Special

Sky Williams faced online criticism recently after he pointed out cyber bullies who tend to get offended at anything and blame others for expressing opinions without providing any valid argument. He was also called "a tool of white supremacy" by social justice warriors for criticizing extremism on both sides while talking about the Black Lives Matter movement. He is super sensitive about incidents that he feels for personally. After the alleged suicide of actor, Robin Williams, he posted a video titled "A Message to the Depressed." on his YouTube channel addressing depression. Diverting from his regular comic content, he talked about his personal experiences, and aimed to provide support to those suffering from similar situations. The video went viral and reached far greater audience than his gamer subscribers. It was also featured on prestigious online publications like The UK Telegraph and The Huffington Post. The video is currently the most watched video on his channel.
