Sky was born on September 19, 1983, in Harlem, New York City. In one of her interviews, she revealed her Haitian origin. Sky is known to be a health-conscious woman. Her day starts with heavy workout sessions, and she often spends time at the gym.

Sky worked as a receptionist at a tattoo parlor in Harlem, New York City, before she gained fame as a reality star. Sky got her breakthrough when the channel ‘VH1’ approached the parlor to chronicle the lives of their staff and artists. The show was titled 'Black Ink Crew,' the same as the name of the parlor. Sky joined the show as a recurring character in the first and the second seasons, and then turned into a main character from the third season. The show changed her life forever and made her a star. She shared screen-space with reputed tattoo artist Dutchess Lattimore. Sky was given nicknames such as 'Queen of The Mixxxys' and 'JaKeita Days.' In its sixth season, the show moved to Atlanta. Sky, too, moved to Atlanta, with the show. She became a manager at the tattoo shop 'Black Ink Atlanta.'

Sky adds a lot of energy and humor to the show. Her journey on the show is no less than a roller-coaster ride. She is bold and fearless. Sky likes to be straightforward while keeping her point. These attributes have helped Sky grow in the show. She has bagged another reality show, 'Scared Famous.' She joined this horror reality series in 2017, to donate for the cause of raising awareness about domestic violence against women. The same year, Sky joined the cast of another ‘VH1’ series, 'Hip Hop Squares.' She appeared as one of the panelists in this contemporary spin-off of the classic show 'Hollywood Squares.'

Before Sky became a reality star, she worked as a makeup artist. She has also served as a makeup artist at several “fashion weeks.” Sky had a brief career on social media, too. She was highly active on the once-popular video-sharing mobile application 'Viddy.' She is still active on other social-media platforms. Her ‘Instagram’ page houses scores of pictures and videos that have earned her over two million followers.

Sky was involved in a major controversy during her 'Black Ink Crew' days. The controversy revolved around her personal life. When Sky was a teenager, she had become pregnant as a result of a fling and had subsequently given birth to her first son, Genesis. Two years later, Sky had become pregnant again and had given birth to her second son, Dessalines. Unable to bear the responsibilities of being a mother at such a tender age, Sky had given both her sons up for adoption. Over a decade later, Sky wanted to reconcile and bring her sons back to herself. This controversy heavily defamed her, and she was subjected to a lot of criticism. She was portrayed as a bad mother by the media. However, Sky does not regret the decision of giving her sons up for adoption, as she believes that was the best she could have done at that time. Sky has strong opinions on many debatable issues, such as skinny-dipping, plastic surgery, and teenage pregnancy.
