Sib Hashian was born as John Thomas Hashian on August 17, 1949 in Boston, Massachusetts, the USA. He was of Italian and Armenian descent. He lived with his wife Suzanne. They had one son, Adam, and two daughters, singer-songwriter Lauren Hashian and songwriter Aja Hashian.

Sib Hashian died on 22 March 2017 after collapsing while he was performing on the Legends of Rock Cruise. According to a report by TMZ, the cause of his death was a heart attack.

Sib Hashian began his music career in 1975 when was chosen by the band Boston’s founder Tom Scholz to replace the original drummer Jim Masdea. Along with the band, he went on to perform in their self-titled debut album and also the follow-up ‘Don't Look Back’. Although the drummer performed on most of the band’s tracks, the drum parts he played were note-for-note transcriptions of Jim Masdea's original drum arrangements. Hashian was also involved in the early sessions for the band’s third album. However, he was later replaced by Masdea when the latter returned.

Career

In 1980, Hashian played drums for fellow Boston member Barry Goudreau's solo album. He also used to occasionally play gigs in the Boston area with his former bandmates including Fran Sheehan, Brad Delp, and Goudreau. He was also a record shop owner and even ran a chain of tanning salons.

In 2001, Hashian performed for the first time as an actor in ‘9-Ball’, a play that was staged at the Cape Cod Repertory Theater. Two years later, he appeared on musician Sammy Hagar's live album titled ‘Live: Hallelujah.’ Soon after this, he appeared in the reality show ‘R U the Girl’ in which his daughter Lauren was a contestant. In 2006, Hashian recorded with the band Ernie and the Automatics. The following year, he started co-hosting a local TV show called Scorch's PFG-TV in New England.
