Shara was born Shara Cannings Knight in 1974, in England, United Kingdom. She started writing pretty early in her life, but became a published writer only after getting married with Edward Michael Grylls, more famous as Bear Grylls. In 2006, ‘Pen Press Publishers’ published Shara’s debut book, ‘Marriage Matters.’ Interestingly, the book is a compilation of various philosophies on successful marriages. The philosophies, some well-known and some personal, were sent to the author by different people as she had requested them to share their secrets of a successful marriage. In 2012, Shara came up with her second and book, ‘Never Stop Holding Hands: And Other Marriage Survival Tips.’ The book, published by David C Cook, has inspiring and encouraging quotes on the institution of marriage. The book received positive reviews from readers with one reader calling it a ‘great engagement present.’
Shara met Bear Grylls in north coast of Scotland, where Grylls was staying with a friend, preparing himself to climb Mt. Everest. In one of his later interviews, Bear Grylls had said that it was a bad time for him to fall in love with Shara as he had to leave to climb the Everest a few months after meeting her. When Grylls returned home after scaling the Everest, he proposed to Shara without much delay. Even before their wedding, Bear Grylls and Shara had decided not to take any chances when it comes to their relationship. Hence they had agreed upon meeting a counselor soon after their wedding. The idea behind meeting a counselor immediately after their wedding was to prevent meeting one in the future. Also, they had requested their wedding guests to give them advises on marriage on the day of their wedding. The couple tied the knot in 2000 and later revealed that the best advice they received on their wedding day came from an elderly couple, who asked them not to stop holding their hands. Apart from playing a critical role in their married life, this advice also became Shara’s inspiration to write her second book.
Bear and Shara Grylls are blessed with three sons, namely Jesse (March 2003), Marmaduke Mickey Percy (April 6, 2006), and Huckleberry Edward Jocelyne (January 15, 2009). In one of his interviews, Bear Grylls had said that his wife and children inspire him to return home safely from all his adventures. Shara is a responsible mother who actively takes part in the development of her children. Since Bear Grylls is mostly absent from home, Shara has taken upon herself the responsibility of raising her sons. Shara and her children split their time between living in London and a holiday home in an island on the North Wales coast of St. Tudwal Island. The family spends its weekends and holidays in the island, which they own.
