Sean Brosnan was born in Los Angeles, California, USA, on September 13, 1983. His father is actor Pierce Brosnan and mother was Australian actress, Cassandra Harris. His mother passed away from ovarian cancer on December 28, 1991. He had an elder sister named Charlotte and has a brother, Christopher from his mother’s first marriage to producer Dermot Harris. He has two younger brothers, Dylan and Paris, from Pierce Brosnan’s second marriage to Keely Shaye Smith.
Sean Brosnan married his longtime girlfriend, producer Sanja Banic, on August 23, 2014. The couple welcomed their daughter, Marley Mae Cassandra Brosnan, on June 29, 2015.
While attending a boarding school in England at the age of 13, Sean Brosnan tried emulating the behavior of his peers to adjust better with them. It helped that he boasted the acting genes of the parents, Pierce Brosnan and Cassandra Harris. He then went to study acting at ‘The Central School of Speech and Drama’ and on graduating with honors, earned a job with the ‘British Shakespeare Company’. His first role on stage was that of Romeo in ‘Romeo and Juliet’ and the play was a massive success in the UK.
In 1997, Sean made his acting debut in the movie ‘Robinson Crusoe’ which also starred his father. He played the role of a cabin boy. 2005 turned out to be a great year for Sean, who was cast as Chris, a music producer in the MTV series ‘Duplicate Drama’ (2005 – 2007). The next year in 2006, Sean was involved in producing and acting in the short ‘Old Dog’. Not only did the movie win at the ‘Edinburgh Short Film Festival’, but he received critical acclaim for his performance. He also starred in the TV mini-series ‘When Evil Calls’ the same year.
Sean continued on his upward trajectory with roles in movies like ‘Surveillance 24/7’ and ‘A West Texas Children’s Story’ in 2007. Perhaps his best-known role as Cpl. Daniel Redman came in the critically acclaimed HBO mini-series ‘Generation Kill’ (2008). In the next few years, he starred in movies like ‘Alien Uprising’ (2012) and ‘Snake and Mongoose’ (2013).
By 2012, Sean increasing interest in direction had pushed him to study direction at the ‘UCLA’ and he formed his own production company ‘Knightmercher Films’, with his partner Sanja. In 2013, he directed and acted in the movie ‘The Kid’. The movie earned him the ‘Best Short Film’ award at the 2013 ‘Louisville's International Festival of Film’. It also won him a ‘Breakthrough Director Spotlight Award’ at the 2014 ‘Hollywood Reel Independent Film Festival’.
He then continued acting in movies like ‘Tides’ (2014) and ‘My Fare Lady’ (2015). Sean Brosnan later directed and acted in the movie ‘My Father Die’. The movie won him both ‘Best Editing’ and ‘Best Director’ awards at the 2016 ‘Screamfest’ awards. In 2018, he was cast in the lead role of Christopher Lowe in the TV series ‘No Easy Days’.
In April 2000, Sean Brosnan was involved in a horrific car accident where the car he was traveling in skidded out of control on the Dume Canyon Motorway and plunged 150ft down the canyon. He suffered from pelvic fractures and a ruptured bladder.
Sean Brosnan had to face the trauma of her mother Cassandra Harris’ death from ovarian cancer, in 1991. Years later, he faced the same horror when his dear sister, Charlotte, was diagnosed with the same disease and passed away in June 2013. On July 3, 2013, he posted pictures with Charlotte, remembering her strength and fight through cancer treatment. He later got involved with charities raising awareness about ovarian cancer.
