Sarah Rafferty was born as Sarah Gray Rafferty on December 6, 1972 in New Canaan, Connecticut, USA, to parents Michael Griffin Rafferty Jr., and Mary Lee Rafferty. She has three sisters, Ann, Maura and Constance. Rafferty attended the Phillips Academy and later on studied at Hamilton College and graduated magna cum laude from there in 1993. She then studied at the University of Oxford and received her Master of Fine Arts degree from Yale School of Drama.

She then appeared in an episode of the series ‘Law & Order’ and ‘Walker, Texas Ranger.’ She proceeded to act in the flick ‘Speakeasy’ in 2003. The same year, the actress got featured in the dramas ‘Without a Trace’, ‘Six Feet Under’, ‘The Practice’, ‘Tremors’ and ‘Good Morning, Miami’. Then in 2004, Rafferty did the movie ‘Soccer Dog: European Cup’. During that time, she also starred in the series ‘Charmed’, ‘Second Time Around’ and ‘8 Simple Rules’.
