Whenever she is free, she likes to spend time with her family and says that she is totally a family person.
Sarah Geronimo was born in Manila, Philippines, on 25th July 1988, to Delfin and Divina Geronimo. Her father worked as a PLDT employee while her mother ran a beauty salon from her house.
Her parents were music lovers and hence, Sarah caught the love at a very early age and as she turned 2, she was already singing songs and nursery rhymes. Her mother saw talent in her daughter and started taking her to auditions of TV programs and music shows.
Sarah got roles in several kids’ shows and started her acting and singing career while side by side, she kept performing at malls and lounges - all this before she turned 10! Her father, who happened to be a musician back in his times, taught her the right way to do it and Sarah didn’t learn singing professionally from anywhere.
Starting her career with acting, Sarah played roles in several kids’ shows such as ‘Pen-Pen De Sarapen’ and ‘NEXT’ as a kid and played a very small role in a movie ‘Sarah.... Ang Munting Prinsesa’. Her big break came in the year 2002, when she participated in ‘Star for a Night’, a big singing talent hunt show and she emerged out as a winner. As prize, she got 1 million PHP and a contract with Viva Entertainment, a big music label.
In the very next year, Sarah’s first album ‘Popstar: A Dream Come True’ came out and turned out to be a moderate success. The critics praised her fresh approach to singing along with her confidence level. Around that time, she started hosting TV shows and did a few films such as ‘Masikip Sa Dibdib’ and ‘Lastikman: Unang Banat’ in 2004. Later that year, Sarah’s second album ‘Sweet Sixteen’ released and it became popular among the teenagers. Concerts followed and more people started appreciating the raw talent that housed the young starlet.
Amidst her musical endeavours, her TV stints kept coming in form of ‘SCQ Reload’, ‘Little Big Star’ and ‘Bituing Walang Ningning’ and she also provided her vocals for the latter one as a singer. In 2006, came her third studio album titled ‘Becoming’ and the next year, Sarah did her very first solo concert ‘In Motion’. The rest of 2007 was spent touring around the USA and Philippines.
In 2008, Sarah released a single from her next album ‘I’ll be There’ and appeared in a romantic film with John Cruz titled ‘A Very Special love’. The film was a blockbuster and turned out to be one of the highest grossing Filipino films of the decade and it also included a song from Sarah’s next album ‘Just Me’. The album was subsequently released in 2008 and included a song which was done in collaboration with Backstreet Boys. The album achieved platinum status upon its release.
She re-released ‘Just me’ with slight changes and the concert DVDs of the album also became massive success. In 2009, Sarah starred in the sequel of ‘A Very Special Love’ with John Cruz titled ‘You Changed my Life’. The film released to critical and commercial acclaim and slowly earned enough to become the top grossing film in Philippines history.
