Robin dreams of becoming an international star and of touring the world someday. He is interested in sports and has participated in competitive swimming and sailing. He is also fond of go-carting and skateboarding.
Although he has a large fan base and many female friends, Robin is not yet in a relationship with anyone in particular.
Robin Petteri Packalen was born on August 24, 1998, in the coastal city of Turku in Finland, to Mika and Nina Packalen. He is the only child of his parents and goes by the nickname “Roppe,” or “Robee.”
Robin was fond of music from a young age and loved performing at home and in school. He learnt to play the guitar and participated in the Finnish nationwide youth singing competition known as ‘Staraskaba’ at the age of 10. He reached the finals and won the competition. This boosted his music career. The following year, he represented his country at the ‘New Wave Junior Contest’ in Moscow. The event was viewed by over 100 million followers. His performance was appreciated and he was soon invited for the next ‘New Wave Contest’ in Ukraine, where he enchanted the audience with his vigorous music style.
Besides learning the guitar, he learnt to play the piano and the drums at the ‘Turku Music Institute’ and was invited to perform with a band led by Cuban musician Carlos Del Puerto, becoming its youngest lead singer.
Robin signed a contract with ‘Universal Music Finland’ and released his first official single, ‘Frontside Ollie,’ named after a popular skateboard stunt, in January 2012. The number was an instant success and earned massive online popularity. Following this, he became a sensation, with fans calling him the “Justin Bieber of Finland.” The number reached the top spot on the ‘Finnish Singles Chart’ within two weeks and remained there till the fourth week of its release. He also made his film debut at the same time, in a documentary titled ‘Robin – The Movie,’ which chronicled his life as a 13-year-old star.
His debut album, ‘Koodi,’ was released a month later and sold over 100 thousand copies in Finland, earning a “quintuple platinum” certification. It contained the hit numbers ‘Faija Skitsoo’ and ‘Hiljainen Tytto.’ This was closely followed by his second studio album, ‘Chillaa,’ in October 2012. This album topped the ‘Finnish Albums Chart’ within a week. Its lead single, ‘Puuttuva Palanen,’ received almost three and a half million views on ‘YouTube’ by February 2013.
He performed live for the first time in Alaharmac. He then performed at a show at ‘The Circus Club’ in Helsinki in March 2012. Thereafter, he has made several live appearances, where he has had the audience spellbound by his energetic style of performing. Over the years, he has mastered the art of connecting with his fans.
In 2013, he released his third studio album, ‘Boom Kah.’ The album was certified “platinum” within a week and was the most-sold album in Finland that year. The lead song of the album reached number four on the ‘Finnish Singles Chart’ and the album topped the charts, with the number ‘Erilaiset’ becoming a hit.
Robin became a teenage sensation with his studio album ‘16,’ which was released in 2014, alongside his other album ‘Boombox.’ Both albums were extremely popular and received positive reviews. His video for the single ‘Onnellinen’ was shot in the Puerto Plata Province of the Dominican Republic. It was released by ‘Universal Music’ in February 2014.
Robin has released six studio albums, namely, ‘Koodi’ (2012), ‘Chillaa’ (2012), ‘Boom Kah’ (2013), ‘Boombox’ (2014), ‘16’ (2014), and ‘Yhdessä’ (2015).
He has also released a book titled ‘Yhdessä,’ which is a tribute to those who helped him with his album of the same name. The chapters of the book contain themes borrowed from the songs of his album.
