At the age of 13, Ricardo Hurtado got his first taste of acting when he was cast as one of the Wickersham Brothers in his school’s production of ‘Seussical, the Musical’. In 2016, he made his television debut in a television special called ‘Ultimate Halloween Haunted House’, portraying a character credited as Party City Accomplice. He then was cast as Joey Montagelli in the season three episode ‘Not-So-Sweet Charity’ of Nickelodeon’s comedy series ‘Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn’. In 2017, he starred in his second television special, Jonathan Judge’s directorial venture ‘Nickelodeon's Sizzling Summer Camp Special’.

Hurtado appeared as Nico in a season two episode titled ‘The Graduate’ in the series ‘The Mick,’ a situational comedy that aired on Fox between January 2017 and April 2018. The show was created by Dave Chernin and John Chernin and starred Kaitlin Olson, Sofia Black-D'Elia, Carla Jimenez, and Thomas Barbusca. Fox announced its cancellation in May 2018 after airing two seasons. In 2018, he made a guest appearance in an episode of ABC’s period sitcom ‘The Goldbergs’.

Hurtado played Freddy Huerta, a character that had been based on Freddy "Spazzy McGee" Jones (Kevin Clark) in Nickelodeon’s musical comedy ‘School of Rock’ that was based on the 2003 film of the same name that starred Jack Black, Joan Cusack, Mike White, and Sarah Silverman. The show aired from March 12, 2016, to April 8, 2018, and was nominated for the Outstanding Children’s Program Emmy in 2016 and 2017.

After signing with Heard Well record label, Hurtado released his Latin pop debut album, ‘Sun Tunes’, on December 15, 2017. It is comprised of 11 tracks, among which, ‘Sun Sets’ and ‘Sun Sets’ (Spanish version) are sung by him. The rest of the songs have been contributed by other artists. On 17 December, he posted the music video for ‘Sun Sets’ on his YouTube channel’.
