QPark is a Korean-American comedian, and social media influencer
QPark was born on July 17, 1979, in South Korea. He has a brother. At some point, he relocated to the United States of America with his family. He attended Horace Mann School from 1990 to 1996 before enrolling at the Yale University. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics in 2000.
QPark is a long-time New Yorker. He is dating Edith Oquendo, who is also his business partner. She has appeared in many of his videos and often serves as the cameraperson.
After finishing college in 2000, QPark was hired by the New York-based Merrill Lynch financial services as an analyst in the energy and power department. He worked there for two years before joining Morgan Joseph & Co., Inc. as the vice president of the media and entertainment department. He was there for the following six years, working about a hundred hours per week. He later stated that it almost killed him.
In 2009, QPark quit his job at Morgan Joseph & Co., Inc. to open a Korean BBQ restaurant. The venture was quite successful. In the ensuing years, he opened three more restaurants. However, he realised that he did not have a real passion for making food as much as eating. During this period, he also became interested in social media. In 2014, he sold all his restaurants to pursue a career as a comedian and social media influencer.
Sometime in 2013, QPark set up his account on Vine. According to him, he was initially making videos so he could entertain people. He had no intention of becoming a comedian. At the height of Vine’s popularity, he had over three million followers and advertisement deals with brands such as Pepsi, Hewlett Packard, Virgin Mobile, Dunkin Donuts, Gap, Budweiser, Kia, Comcast, TBS, Charmin, Marvel, Smirnoff, TNT, VH1, Spotify, and Adult Swim.
QPark had originally started uploading photographs on the video and photograph-sharing app Instagram in April 2012. In August 2013, he announced that he would start uploading videos on the app soon. He posted his first comedy sketch on Instagram in September. In the video, he attempted to scare random strangers with a fake snake. Over the course of the next few years, he continued to post on the platform but Vine was still his first preference.
However, after Vine closed down for good in 2017, Instagram became his primary social media platform. He has over 2.8 million followers on it and garners hundreds of thousands of views per episode.
