Pornsak is a busy man and hence he hardly finds time to indulge in a relationship. According to him, he is not yet ready for a committed relationship.
Pornsak was born in 1982 in Sathorn, Bangkok, Thailand. He was born to a Chinese father and a Thai mother. He has seven half-siblings from his father’s first marriage. When Pornsak turned 5, he lost his mother to cancer. This came across as a shock to him and to his father.
His father never did any household chores and knew nothing about cooking. It was very difficult for him to take care of his children. So, he sent Pornsak to Singapore and enrolled him at a local school there. Life in Singapore was not easy for young Pornsak as he couldn’t speak any language other than Thai. This became his greatest impediment to leading a normal school life.
He then started learning new languages. Soon, he became fluent in English and Mandarin. He later learned Spanish and Teochew too. After mastering multiple languages, he used them effectively in building his career as a host.
Pornsak had to learn cooking as he spent most of his childhood days away from his home. He also did not want to end up being like his father who couldn’t feed his children properly after losing his wife. These two factors encouraged Pornsak to polish his culinary skills and today, he is a successful owner of a chain of restaurants.
Pornsak is a learned person holding three degrees from renowned institutions. He did his schooling first at South View Primary School and then at Clementi Town Secondary School in Singapore. Pornsak pursued his pre-university studies at Jurong Junior College.
He then earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Singapore Management University (SMU). He is also trained in radio broadcasting and production. Later, he did his master’s in Early Childhood Education at Monash University. In June 2015, he pursued a bachelor's degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) from Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine.
After completing his first bachelor’s degree in 2005, he took part in a hosting competition which was organized by the SPH radio, UFM 1003. He went on to win the competition and was offered a job as a full-time host. He made his transition to television in 2007 after signing a contract with the channel, Mediacorp.
His association with Mediacorp turned out to be a life-changing experience for him. Ms. Goh, the channel head, took Pornsak under her wings and groomed him to be an entertaining host. He soon got hosting offers in shows like ‘Stars Beat It II’ and ‘Campus Superstar II’. But the one that made him a star was the cooking show, ‘Food Source’, which he was associated with for four seasons.
Pornsak got another offer to host a show called ‘The Mission’, aired in the network, Channel 8. For his outstanding performance while hosting the show, he won the Best Newcomer award at Star Awards. He then went on to receive Rocket Award, one of the most popular awards given away in Singapore. Pornsak also received Elle Magazine’s Best Host Award.
