Poorna Jagannathan was born on December 22, 1972 in Tunis, Tunisia. She grew up in several countries including India, Pakistan, Ireland, Argentina and Brazil. She got enrolled at the University of Brasilia at first but later on transferred to, and graduated from the University of Maryland. She then attended The Actor's Studio to earn her master's degree. The actress has been married to Azad Oommen since 2003.
Poorna Jagannathan made her acting debut in Hollywood in 2004 by appearing in the TV series ‘Law & Order’. She then acted in the independent comedy-drama movie ‘She Hate Me’. Soon after this, she appeared in the drama film ‘The Weather Man’. In 2006, the actress became a part of the TV series ‘Love Monkey’ and ‘Rescue Me’. A year later, she was cast in the series ‘Awake’. In 2008, she joined the cast of the program ‘The Game’. Then Jagannathan acted in the series ‘Numb3rs’.
From 2010 to 2011, she served as an actress in the drama ‘Royal Pains’. She was then featured in the American comedy-drama flick ‘Peace, Love and Misunderstanding’ as well as in the Bollywood movie ‘Delhi Belly’. In the year 2013, Jagannathan acted in the movies ‘Thanks for Sharing’ and ‘Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani’. The same year, she released the play ‘Nirbhaya’ after getting moved by the devastating gang rape and murder incident that took place in Delhi on December 16, 2012. This play, directed by Yael Farber, opened at the Assembly Hall during Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
The actress then appeared in the American web television drama ‘House Of Cards’ in 2015. A year later, she acted in the crime drama television miniseries ‘The Night Of’. In 2017, she acted in the series ‘Gypsy’ as well as in the film ‘The Circle’. Recently, Jagannathan was a part of the cast for HBO's ‘Room 104’.
