Nate Berkus was born as Nathan Jay Berkus on September 17, 1971 in Orange County, California, the USA, to Mike Berkus and his wife Sher. He has a younger brother named Jesse. He attended Cushing Academy and later graduated from Lake Forest College in 1994 with degrees in sociology and French.
Taking about his love life, Berkus, who is gay, was earlier in a relationship with photographer Fernando Bongoechea. In 2004, Bongoechea went missing while the couple was vacationing at a beach hotel in Sri Lanka when the Indian Ocean tsunami hit. He was later presumed dead.
Since May 4, 2014, Berkus has been married to interior designer Jeremiah Brent. The duo has two kids, daughter Poppy Brent-Berkus and son Oskar Michael Brent-Berkus, both born via surrogacy. Currently, the family resides in West Hollywood, California.
In 1995, Nate Berkus founded his company, Nate Berkus Associates. In November 2005, he got his book ‘Home Rules: Transform the Place You Live into a Place You'll Love’ published. The same year, he started selling his products at Linens 'n Things stores, covering all of the North America. Soon after this, Berkus served as the host of ‘Oprah's Big Give’. In September 2010, he started hosting his own syndicated show titled ‘The Nate Berkus Show’. The show was a hit and ran for two years.
In 2011, he served as the executive producer of the movie ‘The Help’. That year, he also appeared in two episodes of ‘Days of Our Lives’ as himself. Berkus next came up with his book ‘The Things That Matter’ (2012) that went on to become a New York Times Best Seller. Also in October 2012, he collaborated with Target stores and launched his Target Home collection, a line featuring bedding, bath, lighting, and other décor items.
He launched his fabric collection at Calico Corners in January 2013. The same year, the American personality started working on NBC’s primetime series ‘American Dream Builders’. In 2017, he launched the show ‘Nate & Jeremiah By Design’ on TLC alongside his husband, Jeremiah Brent.
