Naomi Scott was born Naomi Grace Scott, on May 6, 1993, in the town of Hounslow in London, England, to a Gujarati Indian mother, Usha Scott (née Joshi), and an English father, Christopher Scott. Her mother was born in Uganda and then immigrated to England at a young age. Naomi’s parents are pastors at the ‘Bridge Church’ in Woodford, London. She has an elder brother named Joshua.
Naomi has participated in missionary work and outreach activities. She has attended the Loughton-based Christian ecumenical secondary school known as the ‘Davenant Foundation School.’ While in school, she regularly performed in drama and musical productions.
Naomi started her career as a singer with the ‘Bridge Church Youth Band.’ She was first spotted by British singer, actor, and TV personality Kéllé Bryan, best known as a member of the British R&B girl band ‘Eternal.’ This led Naomi to sign a deal with Bryan’s entertainment agency. Naomi then worked with the English songwriting and production team ‘Xenomania’.
In 2009, she earned her first major acting role when she was cast as ‘Megan’ in the second season of the ‘Disney Channel UK’ series ‘Life Bites.’ She appeared in 11 episodes of the series that was an adaptation of the ‘Disney Channel Italy’ original series titled ‘Life Bites - Pillole di vita.’
She landed up with the starring role of ‘Mohini "Mo" Banarjee’ in the 2010 American teen musical drama ‘Lemonade Mouth,’ after auditioning through a video conference from London. This was her first acting project with an American production company. The film was based on a 2007 novel of the same name by Mark Peter Hughes. It premiered on ‘Disney Channel’ on April 15, 2011. It was appreciated by the audience and helped Naomi gain initial recognition as an actor in the US.
Naomi also performed in some of the tracks of the soundtrack of ‘Lemonade Mouth’ that was released by ‘Walt Disney Records’ on April 12, 2011. These include her solo track ‘She's So Gone’ that reached the third spot on the ‘Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles’ chart. She also contributed to the tracks ‘More Than a Band,’ ‘Breakthrough,’ and ‘Livin' on a High Wire,’ with other cast members.
She then appeared as ‘Maddy Shannon,’ an intelligent and socially clumsy 16-year-old girl in the American science-fiction series ‘Terra Nova.’ The series aired for a season on ‘Fox,’ from September 26 to December 19, 2011.
