Movita Castaneda was born as Maria Luisa Castaneda on April 12, 1916, in Nogales, Arizona, USA. Raised with her nine siblings, she attended Fairfax High School. In 1939, she got married to Irish actor and singer, Jack Doyle. Previously, she had also been in tempestuous relationships with Errol Flynn and Clark Gable.
Castaneda’s marriage with Doyle did not endure and she went on to marry actor Marlon Brando in 1960. Together, the couple had two children, Rebecca Brando Kotlizky and Miko Castaneda Brando. This marriage too did not last long and ended in divorce in 1962.
On February 12, 2015, Castaneda died due to complications from a neck injury. She was 98 at that time.
Movita Castaneda first appeared in the 1933 flick ‘Flying Down to Rio’. She then played the role of Tehanni in the movie ‘Mutiny on the Bounty’ alongside Franchot Tone and Clark Gable. Soon after this, she did the movies ‘Captain Calamity’ and ‘The Hurricane’. Castaneda then played the role of an island girl in the flicks ‘Paradise Isle’ as well as ‘Girl from Rio’.
In 1938, she appeared in the film ‘Rose of the Rio Grande’. This was followed by her performance in the thriller ‘Tower of Terror’ in 1941. After a break, the American actress acted in the movie ‘Fort Apache’ in which she appeared as Henry Fonda's cook. She then starred with actor Tim Holt in two westerns, ‘The Mysterious Desperado’ and ‘Saddle Legion.’
During this time, Castaneda was also cast in the films ‘Red Light’, ‘The Furies’ and ‘Wagon Master’. Then in 1951, she got featured in the flick ‘Soldiers Three’. Two years later, she was cast in the flick ‘Dream Wife’. Then in 1955, the actress starred in the movie ‘Apache Ambush’. After a small role on TV in 1977, Castaneda played the role of Ana in the drama ‘Knots Landing’.
