Michael Schur was born on October 29, 1975 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the USA to Anne Herbert and Warren M. Schur. He studied at William H. Hall High School in Connecticut. He then went on to attend the Harvard University, graduating from there with an A.B. in 1997. While at Harvard, Schur was the president of the Harvard Lampoon.

Coming to his love life, the American producer cum writer married screenwriter/producer Jennifer Philbin in 2005. He is the son-in-law of actress Joy Philbin and TV star Regis Philbin, and the brother-in-law of author Joanna Philbin. The couple welcomed their first baby, son William Xavier Schur on February 18, 2008. His son’s middle name “Xavier” honors the former’s father-in-law who has the same confirmation name. Two years later, in July 2010, their second child, daughter, Ivy Elizabeth Schur was born.

Personal Life

Michael Schur served as a writer for six seasons on NBC's ‘Saturday Night Live,’ from 1997 to 2004. Soon after, he served as the writer and producer for the network’s show ‘The Office’ in which he also appeared as Mose. In 2005, Schur co-produced HBO's ‘The Comeback’ and also wrote two of its episodes. The following year, he acted in the TV flick ‘Totally Awesome’.

Career

In April 2008, he, along with Greg Daniels, began working on ‘Parks and Recreation’. Three years later, the writer cum actor collaborated on The Decemberists’s music video for ‘Calamity Song’ from their album ‘The King Is Dead.’ In 2013, he co-created Fox’s comedy show ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ alongside Daniel J. Goor. Then in September 2016, he created NBC’s sitcom ‘The Good Place’. That year, he also wrote an episode titled “Nosedive” for the anthology series Black Mirror. As a writer, Schur also writes for the sports journalism criticism blog firejoemorgan.com.
