Mia Elan Swier was born on September 1st, 1985 in New York, United States. She attended Indian Springs School from 1988 to 2003 and then relocated to Alabama at the age of 10. She later returned to her hometown to pursue higher studies at New York University, from where she completed her graduation with a Bachelor's degree in Applied Science, Mass Communication and Media Studies in 2007. In 2008, she enrolled at the New York Film Academy to do a course on Filmmaking, which was completed the following year.
While still studying at the New York University, Mia Swier worked as a Production Assistant at the White Cherry Entertainment from 2004 to 2006, during which time she produced several national live-televised events like the 'SuperBowl' and 'Thanksgiving Day Parade'. She joined ABC Television Network as a Production Intern in 2005 and moved to USA Networks as a Nashville Star Production Assistant the following year.
In 2007, she joined NBC and began working on the immensely popular live television show, 'Saturday Night Live'. She again switched network in 2009, this time joining Showtime Networks Inc., where she worked as an Associate Producer for the next three years. During this period, she produced promotional content for a number of television shows and cinematic movies, such as 'Dexter', 'The Twilight Saga' and some documentaries. Also in 2009, she teamed up with Dan Bricker and co-founded the film production company Effin Media. She co-wrote and directed the short mockumentary 'A (Not So) Civil Union' and co-produced the short psycho-thriller 'Somewhere Between' for Effin Media. She moved to Fox Network's Special Ops department as a writer cum producer in 2012 and worked on shows like 'The Mindy Project', 'Glee', and 'Teen Choice Awards'. After she began working on 'Glee' in 2013, she, and actor, Darren Criss, who played an openly gay character on the musical drama series, made their long-term relationship official. Since then, the couple has remained a staple of tabloids, but most recently they created a stir after announcing their engagement in early 2018.
Alongside her successful production career, Mia Swier also pursues her passion as a musician. Following the footsteps of her father, who worked as a painter under the alias Laszlo Von Glitz, she adopted the stage name, Mia Von Glitz, and performed as a bassist and vocalist for the alt-punk hard rock band 'Shoot the Freak' during her early career.
In 2012, she left the band to form her own all-girls band 'Guns ‘n Hoses' and began performing as its bassist. In October that year, she established her own production house, Von Glitz Productions, and started providing her services as a freelance writer, producer and director. She later co-founded the band, 'Mad Moon Riot', along with Matt Hitchens and Ru Hazell, and began performing as the band's lead vocalist. However, she had to leave the band in March 2015 to focus on her job responsibilities at Fox Networks.
Mia Swier has been in a relationship with actor and singer, Darren Criss, since 2010. The couple first revealed their relationship to the public in 2013, when both of them were working on 'Glee'. She mentioned in an interview that when she first met him, he had not become an actor yet. In January 2018, he announced their engagement on social media, adding that they have been together for seven and a half years. The couple opened a piano bar in Los Angeles called 'Tramp Stamp Grannys' in April 2018 to offer "pretty booze and tasty tunes". The name of the bar was a tribute to her lively grandmother. Following Darren's Emmy win in September 2018, the couple went on an outing with his parents.
