Personal Life

Melissa Brim, who considers herself a strong and independent woman, has been working since the age of 16. At that time, she decided to quit school after becoming pregnant, and began working hard to make both ends meet. While things became a bit easier after she met Floyd Mayweather Jr., as he would often help her with her child, she still always kept a job to take care of her own needs. Melissa, who was more like a tomboy prior to meeting Floyd, became interested in fashion during this time as he often showered her with fashionable gifts. In 1999, she took the job of a waitress at Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. However, she soon became pregnant with her daughter with Floyd and had to take maternity leave. She went right back to work after her daughter was born. Much later, in 2008, she began to appear on the HBO's boxing documentary series '24/7', which earned her recognition as "Floyd Mayweather’s baby mama". However, as a hard-working independent woman, she considers it "a gift and a curse" to be known only as such. By 2009, she already had licenses for cosmetology and massage therapy, and wanted to open a salon, but decided against it as the Las Vegas market was already saturated. Instead, she set up the boutique shop Devanna Love Boutique with the help of Floyd, and also kept a small salon in the back. It might be a tough job ahead of her to bypass media attention as the mother of Floyd's daughter and establish herself as an entrepreneur, but she is leaving no stones unturned.

Rise to Stardom

In the late 1990s, a 16-year-old Melissa Brim had a chance encounter with Floyd Mayweather Jr. at the lounge of a Las Vegas casino, a place she was too young to be in. One of her friends had told her that a man with a lot of money wanted to meet her. While she was cautious about his intentions, she decided to meet him after all and gave him her number following a little chat. He had introduced himself as Shaheed, but after a few days, he called her and reintroduced himself as Floyd, a new boxer from Grand Rapids with a 1-0 record. The two began hanging out together and she often watched him train at the gym for hours. She already had a son named Devion Cromwell who was only eight months old at the time. Soon after meeting Floyd, she became pregnant with his child, and gave birth to a daughter named Iyanna Mayweather in 2000. While she had stopped talking to Floyd due to an issue with his former girlfriend Josie Harris, he continued to support his daughter in the following years. Melissa became involved with another man in the meantime, but as that relationship ended, Floyd got in touch with her after five years and apologized for certain unpleasant things he had done. The two again became close friends and began co-parenting their child. He not only bought a house for her, but also gifted her one of his cars. Eventually in 2009, he asked her what she wanted to do and helped her set up her boutique shop in Las Vegas. She joined the names of her two children, Devion and Iyanna, and named it Devanna Love Boutique.

Relationships

Melissa Brim has had her own share of controversies thanks to her relationship with Floyd Mayweather Jr. In 2000, they stopped talking after he physically abused her twice. He had once knocked her with a car door and another time punched her in the neck in a mall. Floyd was found guilty of domestic violence both times. Much later, in August 2014, Floyd's ex girlfriend Josie Harris threw shades at her for not being with her son’s father.
