Matthew Moy

Matthew James Moy was born in San Francisco, California, on February 3, 1984, to a family of Chinese origin. His father was a high school teacher by profession and his mother was a professional language therapist. He has one sister. When Moy was young, his parents got divorced.

He went to the University of California, Davis, and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Japanese and a minor in linguistics.

Moy is a fun loving person, a characteristic which is reflected in the roles he plays onscreen. He enjoys drawing and painting in his leisure time.

Matthew Moy made his acting debut on television in 2008 with a small role in the American television comedy series ‘Mind of Mencia’. He was seen playing the character of a short man in the eighth episode of the fourth season. He then appeared in ‘iCarly’, an American teen sitcom, portraying the character of ‘Shawn’ in 2009. He also made an appearance in the short film titled ‘Non-Sequitur’ as ‘Dallas’. The same year, he played ‘Louis’ in the hugely popular American sitcom ‘How I Met Your Mother’ alongside Neil Patrick Harris, Jason Segel, Josh Radnor, and Alyson Hannigan.

He played the character of ‘Trang’ in 2009 and 2010 in ‘Scrubs’, an American medical comedy-drama television series first aired on NBC and later on ABC. In 2010, he appeared in several television shows including the American police procedural crime drama television series ‘Criminal Minds’, ‘Zeke and Luther’, ‘Big Time Rush’ (in the episode ‘Big Time Blogger’), ‘Good Luck Charlie’ (in the episode ‘Butt Dialing Duncans’), and the ABC sitcom ‘The Middle’ (in the episode ‘Foreign Exchange’). He also made an appearance in the film ‘The Grover Complex’ as ‘Ron’.

In 2011, he was offered the role of ‘Han Lee’ in the American television sitcom ‘2 Broke Girls’, created by Michael Patrick King and Whitney Cummings. The show, which was aired on CBS, was based on the lives of two friends coming from completely different financial backgrounds. Moy played one of the main characters in the show, appearing between 2011 and 2017. In 2011, he appeared in the film ‘No Strings Attached’ alongside Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman, playing the character of ‘Chuck’.

He appeared in the television show ‘Kickin' It’ (2012) in a guest role and ‘Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness’ (2013) as a voice artist, before landing another lead role on television. He signed up to voice the character of ‘Lars Barriga’ in ‘Steven Universe’, an American animated television series created by Rebecca Sugar for Cartoon Network. He has been part of the show since 2013 and his character is widely popular among the kids.

He has been signed for a lead role in ‘Marvel's New Warriors’, an American cable television series created by Kevin Biegel, based on the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name. He also participated in the American reality television cooking competition ‘Hell's Kitchen’. In addition, Moy has voiced characters in popular video games like ‘G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra’, and ‘White Knight Chronicles’.
