Matt Lanter was born in Ohio in April 1983. He relocated to Georgia in 1991. He has a sister, Kara Day Lanter, who is a teacher in North Carolina. While in high school, he played football, basketball, baseball, and golf, and even worked as a batboy for Atlanta Braves. He hoped to pursue a career related to sports later in life. His parents separated when he was a high school senior.
Matt dated Angela Stacy from 2009 and married her in 2013. The couple attended pre-marriage counseling in a church and had a Star Wars themed wedding in 2013. They have a fluffy white Maltipoo called Ahsoka. Matt believes in Jesus and the Bible but finds the word ‘religion’ weird and constraining.

Born in Ohio, Matt Lanter moved to Georgia when he was eight years old. After two years of community college, he majored in Sports Business at the University of Georgia, only to shift to Los Angeles later, to take up acting. Around this time, he took a job at a golf course to pay through college. That is when he learnt that the production unit of a golf movie called ‘Bobby Jones: Stroke of Genius’ was looking for an extra. He took his chance and ended up debuting in the film. This was in 2004.
The same year, Lanter participated at the reality show ‘Manhunt: The Search for America's Most Gorgeous Male Model’. Although he didn’t win it, he left a veritable impression as one of the top ten contestants. Offers started pouring in and soon, he got a role in the Fox supernatural teen drama series ‘Point Pleasant’.
While television work continued, Matt got film offers too. In 2008, he gave voice-over for Anakin Skywalker in the animated film ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’. A Star Wars fanatic himself, this was a dream come true for him! He continued with the role in the Star Wars television series on Cartoon Network, apart from reprising it in various video games too. The same year, he played the lead role of Will in ‘Disaster Movie’, a parody/comedy film directed by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer.
Careening through a few other films which didn’t make much impact, in 2009, Matt landed on the sets of The CW’s ‘90210’ –a popular teen series—which instantly shot him up to fame. A recurring character in the first season, he was made a series regular from the second season. Since 2016, Lanter has been playing Wyatt Logan in the NBC sci-fi, ‘Timeless’.
What makes Matt Lanter stand out from others is that he is extremely versatile and adaptable. From giving voice-overs to doing romance/comedy/drama roles in both TV and films, Matt has also performed on stage. His theatrical debut was in 2006, opposite Laurence Fishburne in Alfred Uhry's ‘Without Walls’ at The Mark Taper Forum.
