Mary and Brendan tied the knot in 1982 much before the latter commenced his career in films. Brendan rose to prominence in Ireland portraying the character of Michael Collins in the 1991 Irish historical television film titled ‘The Treaty.’ It fetched him a ‘Jacob's Award’ the following year. Mary, who has always remained by the side of her husband through all ups and downs for over three decades, has been a witness to Brendan’s journey to stardom as an actor. Some of his notable portrayals, apart from playing Alastor Moody in the Harry Potter films, are as ‘Hamish Campbell’ in the Academy Award-winning 1995 epic war film, ‘Braveheart,’ directed and starred by Mel Gibson; as ‘Sheriff Hank Keough’ in the 1999 monster horror comedy film, ‘Lake Placid’; as ‘John C. McCloy’ in Tom Cruise starrer 2000 action spy film, ‘Mission: Impossible 2’; and as ‘Menelaus’ in the Brad Pitt starrer 2004 epic period war film, ‘Troy.’

Mary has four sons with Brendan. They are Domhnall Gleeson, Fergus Gleeson, Brian Gleeson and Rory Gleeson. Domhnall, born on May 12, 1983, grew up to become an actor, voice actor, and writer. Domhnall has featured in several films and theatre projects with his father. Some of his notable roles are in Harry Potter and Star Wars films. Brian, born on November 14, 1987, has followed his father and elder brother to build a career in acting. All the four sons of Mary featured with their father in the 2012 television movie, ‘Immaturity for Charity.’ The film, a series of comedy sketches, was made with the objective of raising fund for St. Francis Hospice in Raheny, Dublin.
