Marin Hinkle

Marin Elizabeth Hinkle was born in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on March 23, 1966, to Margaret R. (Polga), a Justice of the Superior Court of Massachusetts, and Rodney Hinkle, a college dean and teacher. At the age of four, she moved with her family to Boston and subsequently the family welcomed their second child, her brother Mark.

Marin went to Newton South High School and later attended Brown University. After deciding to become an actress, she joined New York University's Graduate Acting Program at the Tisch School of the Arts and graduated in 1991.

In 1998, she married Randall Sommer, a New York theater director. The couple has a child together.

Marin Hinkle started her acting career in theaters. She played the character of ‘Juliet’ in ‘Romeo and Juliet’ at the Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington DC alongside Jean Stapleton in 1994. She then played important roles at the Broadway and the Broadhurst Theatre before playing the character of ‘Sandra Markowitz’ in ‘A Thousand Clowns’ at the Criterion Center Stage Right.

In 1995 she made her debut on television playing the role of ‘Alison Van Rohan’ in the NBC television soap opera ‘Another World’. She later appeared in a couple of television shows and films before getting her big break in the ABC television drama series ‘Once and Again’ in 1999 playing the role of ‘Judy Brooks.’ She portrayed this character in a total of 58 episodes.

Marin Hinkle’s next big project was with CBS, she appeared in the American television sitcom ‘Two and a Half Men’ between 2003 and 2015 playing the role of ‘Judith Harper-Melnick.’ She was one of the main characters and appeared alongside Charlie Sheen, Jon Cryer, Angus T. Jones, and Ashton Kutcher till the eighth season. She appeared in a total of 83 episodes across the seasons before her character was written out of the script.

In 2013, she appeared in the American prime time television soap opera ‘Deception’ as ‘Samantha Bowers’ and later in 2014, she signed up for the role of ‘Isabelle Barnes’ in the CBS political drama television series ‘Madam Secretary’. The next years brought her some important roles including that of ‘Dr. Miller’ in the ABC sitcom ‘Speechless’ and ‘Rose Weissman’ in the American period comedy-drama television series ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’.

Although a very successful actress in the television field, Marin Hinkle could not enjoy a similarly glorious career in the film industry; however, she did appear in over thirty films in her career. Her film credits include ‘Frequency’, ‘The Next Big Thing’, ‘The Year That Trembled’, ‘What Just Happened’, ‘Quarantine’, ‘Imagine That’, and ‘Cowgirls 'n Angels: Dakota's Summer’.
