Lucy Chet DeVito was born on 11 March 1983 in New York City, USA to the Hollywood couple Danny DeVito and Rhea Periman. Her father is famous as a comedian, actor, director and producer. Her mother was also a popular actress of her time and is a known Hollywood personality. Lucy is the elder sister of Grace DeVito and Jake DeVito who also entered show business as a producer and actor respectively.
She was raised in Beverly Hills California and Interlaken, New Jersey with her siblings. Her father is Catholic and her mother is of Jewish origin. Lucy and her family celebrate the festivals of both religions but followed no particular faith. Her parents wanted their children to make that decision on their own when they grew up.
As a child Lucy was brought up in a closely knit family but her parents decided to separate in 2012 after about 30 years of marriage. There was a period of turmoil till her parents reconciled a year later and started to live together. They again separated amicably in March 2017 but did not get officially divorced.
Lucy was influenced by her parents acting career and decided to follow their footsteps when she grew up. She was the favourite of her father who was the main driving force behind her acting career. She was involved in theatre while in high school and took part in plays while she studied in Brown University. Her first appearance in movies was a minor role in the film ‘This Revolution’ in 2005.

At the age of 25 she acted in a play at the Intiman Theatre in Seattle, Washington where she had the lead role of the German holocaust victim, Anne Frank. Her first major role in a movie came a year later in 2009 when she played the role of Miss Greenstein in the film ‘Leaves of Grass’. Her other movies include ‘The Comedian’ where she appeared alongside her father and Robert De Niro and her latest movie ‘Speech and Debate’.
She started her television career with the minor role of a cashier in the serial ‘Crumbs’ in 2006. Since then she has had many recurring roles in television serials that include Jenny in ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’, Linda in ‘Dirt’ and Lisa in ‘Girls’.
Her on stage performances have continued with her roles as Evelyn in Neil LaBute’s ‘The Shape of Things in Los Angeles’ and the title role in the play ‘Lucy’ at the Ensemble Studio Theatre (EST). She also appeared on stage in the show titled ‘Love, Loss and What I Wore’ alongside her mother.
