Lori Anne Allison is an American celebrity makeup artist, an entrepreneur, and former wife of Hollywood actor Johnny Depp
Lori was born on September 6, 1957, in the US. As a child, she was interested in makeup and hairstyling. She began her career by applying her makeup ideas on her dolls. She would cut and style her dolls’ hair and apply makeup on them using colored pens. By the time Lori turned 11, she had begun sketching makeup looks on paper. She would draw faces and then use real makeup products to replicate a full-face makeup. She eventually mastered basic makeup skills.
At 13, Lori experienced real makeup for the first time. She walked into a small makeup boutique on Collins Avenue, Miami Beach. Lori got a full-face makeup done by one of the sales ladies in the boutique. There, she learned some real techniques of makeup. She also learned that makeup was actually about enhancing one’s features and not about exaggerating them. Back then, Lori was highly influenced by musicians, models, drag queens, and actors. Her biggest sources of inspiration in the field of makeup were David Bowie and makeup artist Way Bandy. Lori has always stood apart from the crowd. While every other student in school aspired to become a doctor, an engineer, or a lawyer, Lori’s dream was to make a career in an unconventional field. She had a bold and unique appearance, too. At the age of 16, Lori had rainbow streaks in her hair, had shaved her eyebrows off, and often wore funky clothes. She was labeled "a freak" by her friends.
Lori moved to Los Angeles to pursue her career in the field of makeup. There, she stayed at 'The Chelsea Hotel.'
Interestingly, Lori initially wanted to become a musician. Her shift to Los Angeles was primarily meant to help her enter the music industry. Lori had many friends from the industry, and they helped her a lot in learning about music and the recording industry. Lori was determined to become a record producer, but an unfortunate incident crashed her dream. In a target-shooting mishap, she became partially deaf in her left ear.
Nevertheless, the incident gave Lori's career a new direction. Two of her good friends, musician Adam Ant and actor Christina Applegate, helped Lori enter the field of makeup. Christina gifted her a professional makeup kit and her first job on TV. Adam helped Lori bag her first film and her first play. Simultaneously, she worked with several fashion photographers as a makeup artist. With time, Lori established her career in the industry and soon had a long list of celebrity clients.
Lori made her debut as a makeup artist with the 1992 film 'Sunset Heat.' She later worked in several films such as the 1995 film 'Cyber Bandits.' She also appeared in the TV series 'The Ultimate Lie' (1996), 'Supreme Court of Comedy' (2008), and 'Stand Up to Cancer' (2008).
Lori is an entrepreneur and owns the makeup product range 'Serendipity Lip Glosses,' which was launched in 2015. She also runs a small cupcake business named 'D’Cups.'
Allison got married to Hollywood actor Johnny Depp in 1983. Initially, they enjoyed a smooth married life. However, in 1985, they decided to part ways due to irreconcilable differences. According to sources, there was no sign of an extramarital affair from her side. Johnny, however, was rumored to have dated his fellow actor, Sherilyn Fenn, while he was married to Lori. The rumor turned out to be true after they both officially announced their engagement later.
Lori and Johnny finally got divorced on March 7, 1986. She received seven million dollars from Johnny as a divorce settlement. They had no children. They still maintain a cordial relationship. Lori came out in support of Johnny when he was once accused of physically abusing his then-wife, Amber Heard. She also stated that Johnny had never been abusive with her when they were together.
