In 2011, Davis adopted a daughter, Gemma Rose. They reside in Los Angeles, California. Davis is a recovering alcoholic. She says she was introduced to alcohol early as part of her Southern upbringing.
She is a life-long lover of elephants and in recognition to the attention she brought towards the plight of orphaned African elephants; she was presented the Humane Society's 2010 Wyler Award.
A tireless champion of vulnerable women’s cause, Kristin has made two visits to Africa with Oxfam, travelling to Mozambique, South Africa and Uganda to gain a better understanding of gender issues and poverty there.
Davis was born in Boulder, Colorado, and her parents separated when she very young. Later, Keith Davis, a University of Colorado Boulder professor adopted her.
When Kristin was a child, her family shifted to Columbia, South Carolina, where she attended ‘A.C. Flora High School’ and graduated in 1983.
Aspiring to be an actress since the age of 9, she moved to New Jersey and earned a BFA degree in Acting from ‘Mason Gross School of the Arts’, Rutgers University, in 1987.
Davis shifted to New York and started working as waitress. Soon, with the help of one of her friends she started a yoga studio. In 1991, she got an acting opportunity and appeared in a few episodes of the daytime drama, ‘General Hospital’.
She catapulted to success in 1995 when she portrayed Brooke Armstrong Campbell on the nighttime drama, ‘Melrose Place’. Later, her character was killed-off in the show and she went on to make appearances in TV series like ‘Friends’, ‘Will and Grace’ and ‘Seinfeld’.
In, ‘Sour Grapes’, a 1998 American comedy film written and directed by Larry David, she played the role of Riggs. The film gained poor reviews from the critics.
In, ‘Deck the Halls’, a 2006 Christmas comedy film, she was cast as Kelly Finch alongside stars like Danny DeVito, Matthew Broderick and Kristin Chenoweth. The film was a commercial flop and was critically panned.
She starred opposite Tim Allen in ‘The Shaggy Dog’, a 2006 comedy film by Walt Disney Pictures. The film received mixed reviews from film critics but went on to be a commercial success.
