Kevin Olusola was born as Kevin Oluwole Olusola on October 5, 1988, in Owensboro, Kentucky, USA, to Curline Paul and Oluwole Olusola. He has a sister named Candace and a brother named Kellon. Olusola started his education at the Greater Philadelphia Junior Academy. He later on moved to Owensboro where he attended the Triplett School for a short period of time. He then transferred him to Owensboro Public School. After this, Olusola enrolled at the Phillips Academy Andover. Then after graduating from Andover, he chose to attend Yale University.

Personal Life

Kevin Olusola started learning piano at the age of four, cello at the age of six and alto saxophone at the age of ten. He was greatly involved in music programs in his grade school and participated in jazz band, concert band, marching band and community youth orchestra. At age 12, he was selected as the chief saxophonist of the United States Collegiate Wind Band and the principal cellist of Kentucky State Youth Orchestra. He toured a lot with the bands, performing at various events and festivals.

Career

Olusola then moved to Beijing and continuously honed his celloboxing skills. He then began uploading his celloboxing covers to his own YouTube channel. He also performed for Jon Huntsman, Jr. and even did covers with rapper KorElement. Soon after this, he and YouTube star Jake Bruene videotaped "Julie-O". After the video’s success, Olusola was contacted by Scott Hoying and was requested to join his group Pentatonix, joining members Avi Kaplan, Kirstie Maldonado, and Mitch Grassi to compete in the 3rd season of NBC’s ‘The Sing-Off’.

Career

The group won the competition which landed them a contract with Sony Music Entertainment. Pentatonix then immediately recorded their first album. Their first EP titled ‘PTX, Volume 1’ was released in June 2012. The same year, the group released their Christmas EP titled ‘PTXmas’. After their winter–spring 2013 tour, the group began recording their second EP titled ‘PTX, Vol. II’ which was released in Nov 2013. Olusola also co-wrote four songs for this album: ‘Natural Disaster,’ ‘Hey Momma/Hit the Road Jack,’ ‘Love Again’ and ‘Run to You.’
