Keisha Nash Whitaker was born as Keisha Simone Nash on March 8, 1972 in Boston, Massachusetts. She has a brother named Jeffrey Nash who is an actor, producer and writer known for film like 'Proud', 'Super Sucker' and 'Spectrum'. She attended Lynn Classical High School and Endicott College.

Keisha Nash Whitaker, who considers herself as ambitious, had initially begun her career as a model and was represented by Ford Models and Elite Model Management. She has acting credit in the 2004 drama film 'Proud', which also stars her brother Jeffrey Nash. She later turned executive producer for the documentary 'Kassim the Dream' in 2008. She had once tried to start a clothing line for children when her own kids were younger, but found it difficult to commit to a new business as a dedicated mother. In the mid-2000s, she was offered a new product by a makeup artist while working as a host on the sets of a party-planning television show. A couple of days later, while having lunch with makeup artist A.J. Crimson, who had also received the product, they talked about it and realized that they could create a much better product, which eventually resulted in the 'Kissable Couture' lip gloss collection, two years later, in 2007.

Keisha Nash Whitaker first saw her future husband Forest Whitaker in his 1991 film 'A Rage in Harlem' and immediately thought of him as "a gentle soul and a nice spirit". Later, she met him for the first time on the sets of the 1994 action thriller 'Blown Away'. They began dating soon after and finally got married on May 4, 1996 in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

She gave birth to their first daughter, Sonnet Noel Whitaker, on October 3rd, 1996. They welcomed their second daughter, True Whitaker, on July 2nd, 1998. The couple also has two more children, his son Ocean and her daughter Autumn, from their previous relationships. She told in an interview with 'She Knows' that no matter what she is doing, her husband supports her whenever he gets the opportunity. In early March 2014, Keisha Nash Whitaker created serious concerns in the media over her wellbeing after she appeared "painfully thin" as she accompanied her husband to the 2014 'Film Independent Spirit Awards' at Santa Monica Beach. Not only she was much thinner than she was a few years back, her upper arms also seemed thinner than her elbows. Concerned over her health right before she turned 42, tabloids even published interviews with experienced doctors who speculated over the possible reason behind her striking 35-pound weight loss. Dr. Pescatore, author of 'The Hampton’s Diet', told RadarOnline.com that "she runs the risk of premature aging of her heart and bones". Fans also began to ask her on social media if she was dieting or her eating habits were affecting her health. She responded to a fan on Twitter saying that she does not "believe in diets" and that she is not vegetarian like her husband and daughter, but loves meat. Thankfully, she seems to have recovered from whatever was ailing her as she appeared healthier after being spotted shopping at CVS in Malibu with her husband in July 2017.
