Kaylee started dancing at the age of three. She has mastered ballet, jazz and contemporary styles of dance. She has appeared in several dance shows and has proven her mettle as a dancer in national/international dance competitions. She came to the limelight while appearing in the dance reality show ‘Dance Moms.’ Her performances at the Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP), America’s largest scholarship audition program for talented dancers from around the world, has her fans enthralled. She was the 1st runner up at the YAGP for the Hope Awards Category, a pre-competitive age category for 9-11 year olds, representing the Dmitri Kulev Classical Ballet Academy, California. She also won the 2nd place at the Dance Awards in the Mini Female Best dancer Category. She was associated with the Dance Precisions Studio dance academy when she appeared for the show ‘Dance Moms’ along with her sisters Rihanna and Coco, accompanied by their mom, Jeannie. Her style of dancing is lyrical where she has created a masterful fusion of techniques from ballet, gymnastics, jazz and contemporary genres. Some of her best solos are ‘Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend’ (a musical theatre), and Lyrical solo performances like ‘Fireworks’, ‘The Raven’ and ‘Hallelujah.’
Kaylee is not just an average pre-teen. Her dedication towards dance is what sets her apart. She has been dancing from the age of three. She has trained in classical ballet as well as creative gymnastics. What makes her performances special is not just clinical precision with her dance moves, but powerful way of body and facial expressions. Her performances are highly rhapsodic yet intricately technical. Nine years old at the time of her performance of ‘Hallelujah’, an Acapella version by Imogen Heap, Kayleewas a poetry in motion, that in the ordinary world would seem beyond her age.
Kaylee appeared in an episode of ‘Dance Moms’ and created controversy due to her bad attitude. She was asked to lead a group and she apparently thought performing in a monster dance with a bunch of kids was beneath her caliber. She was seen to complain about the song, roll her eyes when asked to correct her steps and present a really sour attitude overall. The moms in the series termed her a ‘brat.’ People exploded all over the internet, criticizing Kaylee, who in her defense said that she was approached by the show to perform in the elite group and was surprised by the last minute change.
