Kash Doll is an American rapper and actress
Kash Doll born at
Knight was born on March 14, 1992, in Detroit, Michigan. When she was only one year old, her father passed away and subsequently, her mother remarried. She and her six younger siblings were raised by their mother and her stepfather in a house located at The West Side in Detroit. While she was well provided for, the loss of her biological father at such an early age left its toll. Furthermore, her mother and stepfather argued constantly. She faced rampant teasing at school which caused some insecurities. Despite this, she was one of the most popular girls in her school.
She had always harboured the dream of being a rapper one day but she had not found the courage in her to consider it attainable. She loved to write poetry and held several odd jobs, such as babysitting and being a janitor at Ford Field. She also worked at Better Made Chip factory, Little Caesar’s Pizza, and Best Buy. After she graduated from Detroit City High School, she turned to exotic dancing to earn more money.
She was an exotic dancer for one year and it proved to be a profitable venture. On one particular night, she even earned $26,000. She then worked as a model before deciding to pursue her childhood dream.
Kash Doll started off her career in 2014 by releasing a remix version of Tinashe’s ‘2 On’. Soon enough, she was given a spot on Detroit’s Hot 107.5 countdown and landed several show bookings. She also collaborated with Compton AV, Young Gator, Icewear Vezzo, Lil Stl, Ca$h Out, Philthy Rich and Troy Ave.
Her first single, the cover of AV’s ‘Run Me My Money’, received good reviews. Encouraged, she put out her first mixtape, ‘K.R.E.A.M. Kash Rules Everything Around Me’ in 2015. That year, she signed a record deal with BMB Records and through them, released ‘Keisha Vs. Kash Doll’ mixtape, which also featured artists such as Zaytoven, Trina, Lyrica Anderson and B.O.B. The reaction it got exceeded any expectation she had. It was downloaded over 600 thousand times in the first two days of its release.
In 2016, Kash Doll released her third mixtape, ‘Trapped in The Dollhouse’. That year, she also put out her first extended play, ‘Kashin’ Out’ through RMMR record label. During the Summer 26 tour in Detroit, she got the chance to perform with Canadian musical artist Drake. In early 2017, she recorded the single ‘For Everybody.’
Kash Doll released her most recent mixtape, ‘Brat Mail’, in March 2018. She subsequently stated that it was a gift for her fans after she was released from a contract that did not let her make original music. She is currently working on her first studio album.
Besides being one of the most promising rappers in the recent years, she has also released her own emoji app called KDmoji.
The rumours of animosity between Kash Doll and the Bronx-based rapper Cardi B began to circulate in 2017 when the latter received the Spirit of Detroit award. Kash Doll posted a series of tweets where she expressed her displeasure about it, stating that a Detroit native should have been the recipient.
In May 2018, Kash Doll put out a remix of Cardi and YG’s single ‘She Bad’. She later said in a live session on Instagram that YG had originally offered her the song. She also revealed that she had added a verse to the track but it was apparently removed from the final version. When she tried to put it up on SoundCloud, she was blocked from doing so.
