The twins first created a twitter account in 2013, but they were not active until 2015 when they created their first YouTube video. Before this, they created videos on Musical.ly too. Their initial videos were more for fun and games than anything else. Now their videos are more of the motivational kinds which encourage the teenagers to get over procrastinating and get things done because there is more to life than just living today. Only if they get over their weaknesses today will they get strong enough for their tomorrows and make it great in life. The teens soon found quite a following and many of their fellow-goonies thank them for helping them out of rough spots and for making them strong enough. Julian and Jovani increased their visibility by doing vines, YouTubing and making themselves visible in social media of all kinds. But their mainstay is their own site, www.99goonsquad.com.
The twins themselves and know the trials and tribulations teens face. They understand the nuances and how they can alleviate their problems. They don’t make preachy videos per se, but intersperse it with fun elements that make people laugh. Laughter and tomfoolery are the tools they use and of course empathy definitely helps. Their videos address various issues like trouble getting up, and being positive and staying positive throughout the day without succumbing to negative thoughts. They also talk about accepting yourself and understanding your strengths and weaknesses and playing them up. In this manner, you can overcome your weakness or at least not highlight them and fall prey to criticisms and negativity. They have been very well received and the number of their subscribers has grown in leaps and bounds since they set up their website in 2015. Starting with just a few subscribers, they now have over 200,000 and are only growing. They have also managed to get many views of their vines and videos on Musical.ly thanks to the visibility in their ‘goonies’. Or maybe they are just plain popular. In any case, these twins are just… way too cool!
The twins are now doing a countrywide show titled ‘Part Of My Story’ or POMS in which they have partnered with SAVE – Suicide Awareness Voices of Education to reduce teen suicides—and have toured all over the country since December 2015. They are going to tour some more in the winter of 2016 too. During this tour, they have collaborated with other social media influencers like the Rowland brothers, Mario Selman and Geo Roman. Besides this, they have now released their first song, ‘YouNow Gurl’ dedicated to all their goonies, ‘cause they have supported them throughout. The twins claim that though they are not singers, it just goes to show that belief can get you through anything.
