Julia Goldani Telles was born on March 18, 1995, in Los Angeles, California, to Ana Maria Goldani and Edward Eric Telles, a sociologist. Her mother is Brazilian while her father is Mexican. She has no siblings. When she was 2, her parents relocated to Rio de Janeiro. She began learning ballet dancing at age 5. By 2000, her family moved back to Los Angeles.

At the age of 9, she got entry into the summer program of the ‘School of American Ballet.’ She trained hard to improve her skill. She also obtained training at the ‘Ballet Academy East.’ At age 13, she joined the ‘Professional Children’s School’ in Manhattan, New York.

Telles performed in various ballet shows, including ‘Don Quixote,’ ‘Sleeping Beauty,’ ‘Swan Lake,’ and ‘Nutcracker.’ When she was 15, she suffered from tendonitis and labral tears in her hips, so she had to take one year break from ballet dancing. In the meantime, she joined a drama course. One of her friends introduced her to an acting coach, who, in turn, introduced her to an agent.

In 2011, she auditioned for the role of ‘Sasha Torres’ in the ‘ABC Family’ series, ‘Bunheads.’ Prior to that she had no acting experience or any resume, yet she was successful at the audition and worked in the series that premiered on June 11, 2012, and ran for 18 episodes. In 2012, she featured in the music video of the song ‘Greatest Prize’ by Nat and Alex Wolff.

She appeared in a short role in the TV show, ‘Blue Bloods,’ (2014). She appeared as ‘Amelia Strong’ in ‘The Carrie Diaries’ (2014). In another 2014 TV series, ‘Nurse Jackie,’ she essayed the role of ‘Mandy’ in 3 episodes.

Soon after the cancellation of ‘Bunheads,’ Telles came across a strong and interesting role of ‘Whitney Solloway’ in the Showtime (2014 – till present) series, ‘The Affair.’ Her performance in this long-running series brought her fame and recognition.
