Josh Sargent

Josh Sargent was born on 20 February 2000, in O’Fallon, Missouri, to Jeff and Liane Sargent. Both his parents love soccer and played at college-level. Sargent became a member of Gallagher Soccer Club when he was 8.

He went to St. Dominic for High School and later moved to Florida and joined the U.S. residency program. Even in High School, he was ranked #2 High School soccer player in the country. He played for St. Dominic basketball team too.

Josh Sargent used to play for Scott Gallagher Missouri which was a U.S. Soccer Development Academy Club located at St. Louis, Missouri. He gave a spectacular performance at the 2016 Nike International Friendlies. After that, in the summer of 2016, he went on to train with Sporting Kansas City. In addition to this, MLS club obtained his player’s acquisition rights as St. Louis falls in the Sporting Kansas City’s homegrown player territory.

He had a week-long training session with Dutch Club PSV Eindhoven in October 2016. Few months later, he not only trained with German club FC Schalke 04, but was also selected for United States U20 team. German club Werder Bremen had announced on 20 September, 2017 that Sargent would be joining their club. On 20 February 2018, Sargent turned 18 and signed his contract with Werder Bremen and will play for the club for 2018-19 season. He also played a friendly match with club’s under-23 squad.

Josh Sargent began his international career in 2013 by first appearing in a United States U 14 camp. Following that, he was called for United States U15. In 2015, he became a part of U-17 MNT Residency Program in Bradenton, Florida. In 2017, Sargent was chosen by the coach John Hackworth to be a part of the United States team at 2017 CONCACAF U-17 Championship. Sargent helped United States in reaching the final as he scored five goals in the tournament; two of them were in the match with Mexico which they won. He was instrumental in America’s qualification for the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup.

He was selected as part of the 21 man squad which was to represent United States at the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup. During the match against Ecuador, Sargent scored two goals and played a big role for his team to tie the match and in the process became the youngest American player to score in a U20 World Cup. On June 1, 2017, Sargent scored against New Zealand and joined the list of many players such as Jozy Altidore, Eddie Johnson, Taylor Twellman, and became one of American all-time goal scorers at U-20 World Cup.

On November 7, 2017, Sargent again set a new record when he was called to play friendly against Portugal. Consequently, he became the only American player to play for U-17, U-20 and MNT camp in the same year.
