John Ortiz first appeared on television in 1992, in the drama series ‘Law & Order’. He then appeared in the movies ‘Carlito's Way’ and ‘Lotto Land’. In 1996, he was cast as Nelson 'Margarita' Marquez in the TV series ‘Lush Life’. A year later, he appeared in the series ‘Touched by an Angel’ as well as in the TV movie ‘Riot’. After this, the actor got featured in the movies ‘The Opportunists’ and ‘Before Night Falls’.


He started playing the role of Ruben Somarriba in the series ‘The Job’ in 2001. After this, he appeared in an episode of ‘The Handler’ and ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’ respectively.
