His brother Nash Edgerton is also a very successful filmmaker and stunts man.

Joel Edgerton was born on June 23, 1974 in Blacktown, New South Wales, Australia as the second son of Michael and Marianne Edgerton. His father was a very successful solicitor and a famous property developer. He has a brother named Nash Edgerton who is also in the film industry.

He went to Hills Grammar School from where he graduated in 1991. Since he had an interest in acting from an early age, he went to the University of Western Sydney to attend the Nepean Drama School. Joel was a bright student in the drama school and soon went on to act in the Sydney Theatre Company in various types of stage productions.

Joel Edgerton is both an actor and filmmaker. His first ever stint as an actor was in a short film named ‘Loaded’ that was released in the year 1996. He produced and acted in many movies after that and his first big break came in ‘Star Wars Episode II – Attack of the Clones’ (2002) where he played the character of Owen Tars.

He reprised the role in ‘Star Wars Episode III – Revenge of the Sith’ in 2005. Both movies went on to become the biggest grossers in their respective years of release and have now become epics. Joel Edgerton had always desired to do movies for children and Star Wars was a perfect platform to make his dream come true.

Prior to ‘Star Wars Episode III,’ he had played the role of Gawain in ‘King Arthur’ which is still regarded as one of the best movies he ever acted in. After the huge success of ‘Star Wars Episode II,’ there was great expectation from him and he did not let the audience down with his performance in ‘King Arthur.’

Apart from being a successful actor in various big budget films, Joel Edgerton has also acted in probably one of the most memorable TV series ever, ‘The Secret Life of Us.’ This TV series starred some really popular names in the industry, such as Claudia Karvan, Anna Torv and Samuel Johnson. In fact, this series became such a huge hit that Joel went on to win the Best Lead Actor in a Television Drama at the AACTA Awards.

The show started airing in the year 2001 and became an instant hit. The story, cinematography, and humor won over the hearts of the audience. Edgerton’s role as William McGill was loved by one and all. He once said in an interview that if Star Wars hadn’t happened, then he would definitely have made a name for himself with this TV series.

Joel Edgerton was involved in the Oscar winning movie Zero Dark Thirty in the year 2012. He portrayed the character of Patrick and earned critical praise for his performance.

He acted in the multi-starrer movie ‘The Great Gatsby’ where he played Tom Buchanan and acted alongside some of the greatest actors of all time, Leonardo DiCaprio and Amitabh Bachchan.

In 2015, he had the opportunity to work in the gangster movie ‘Black Mass’ where his co-star Johnny Depp was noted saying that Joel was a perfectionist in his job.
