Joe Maw

Joe was born on February 19, 1997, in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, England, to Richard and Claire. Joe has a brother named Jack.

Joe attended 'Gladstone Road Juniors' and later attended the 'Graham Science and Arts College.' Joe is skilled in activities such as archery, running, skiing, and swimming.

Joe began acting professionally at the age of 12. He began with commercials and short films and later turned toward TV. Joe has been associated with a number of theater projects, too.

In 2010, Joe starred in a short film titled 'Fawn.' Produced by 'Screen Yorkshire,' the film was predominantly a dark piece. The film featured Joe as a murder victim waiting for his body to be found. His remarkable performance in the film led the director, Ronald J Wright, to cast him in many of his other projects. Joe then appeared in another short film, 'Eldon Hole.' He also did a TV commercial for the brand 'Space Putty.'

Joe received a big career boost with the 'CBBC' drama 'Tracy Beaker Returns.' He joined the cast of the show in 2010 and has played the recurring character ‘Johnny Taylor’ through the years. Joe was cast as ‘Johnny’ again in the show’s spin-off series, namely, 'The Tracy Beaker Survival Files' (2011), 'The Dumping Ground Survival Files' (2014), and ‘The Dumping Ground’ (2013–2017). The series, which is itself a spin-off to ‘The Story of Tracy Beaker,’ won several awards including both the 'BAFTA' and the ‘Royal Television Award,’ in the ‘Children's Drama’ category. In addition to this, he has appeared as the guest lead in a few episodes of the 'BBC' medical soap opera ‘Doctors.’ The show featured him as ‘Jude Rackham’ in 2012 and as ‘Connor Marshal’ in 2014. In 2013, Joe was the guest presenter in the children's TV segment 'CBBC Office.'

Joe’s successful TV career did not stop him from working in short films, theater projects, and commercials. After bagging praises for his performances in 'Fawn' and 'Eldon Hole,' Joe was cast in the 2013 short film 'A Life Like Mine.' Produced by 'Box Clever Films,' the film received the award for the ‘Best Ensemble Cast’ at the 'Monaco International Film Festival.' In 2015, Joe again appeared as ‘Johnny Taylor’ in the web series 'The Dumping Ground Dish Up.' This five-part series featured the culinary skills of various 'The Dumping Ground' characters. Joe also played a brief role in the short film 'Freight.'

In 2016, Joe played the character ‘Jack’ in the pantomime act 'Sleeping Beauty.' The following year, he appeared as ‘Algernon Moncrieff’ in a production of Oscar Wilde’s popular play 'The Importance of Being Earnest.' In 2018, he played ‘Jasper Harrow’ in the psychological thriller short film 'Mater Mortem.' Joe played the title role in the 2017 pantomime act 'Aladdin.' He made his debut as a voice artist in the video game 'The Shapeshifting Detective.'
