Joan Lunden was born as Joan Elise Blunden on September 19, 1950 in Fair Oaks, California, USA, to Gladyce Lorraine and Dr. Erle Murray Blunden. She received her liberal arts degree from the California State University, Sacramento. After this, she studied anthropology and Spanish at the Universidad de Las Americas.

Personal Life

Talking about her love life, the American journalist was married to TV/radio personality Michael A. Krauss from 1978 to 1992. The couple had three daughters: Sarah Emily Krauss, Lindsay Leigh Krauss, and Jamie Beryl Krauss before getting divorced. Lunden then went on to marry Jeff Konigsberg in 2000. The couple has four kids. On June 24, 2014, the journalist disclosed that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. She then underwent surgery to remove the cancerous lumps, followed by chemotherapy and radiation to completely destroy the remaining cancer cells. As of 2018, she is healthy and cancer-free.

Joan Lunden started her journalistic career at KCRA-TV. Then she went on to work in New York's WABC-TV’s program ‘Eyewitness News’ in 1975. She began co-anchoring the weekend newscasts as well. After this, she joined GMA as a feature news reporter and later served as a fill-in co-host for ABC's coverage of Winter Olympics.

Lunden spent many years of her journalistic career hosting with ABC's Charlie Gibson. From the 1970s through the 1990s, her popularity on the GMA program gave her the opportunity to interview many U.S. Presidents and First Ladies including Gerald and Betty Ford, Ronald and Nancy Reagan, Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter, Bill and Hillary Clinton, and George and Barbara Bush, to name a few.

As a host, Lunden hosted the A&E cable network show ‘Behind Closed Doors’. She also guest-hosted the network’s show ‘Biography’ on several occasions. Besides these, she hosted DirectTV's series titled ‘Hometown Heroes’ and also ‘America's Invisible Children’. Currently, she hosts the Lifetime series ‘Health Corner’.
