Personal Life

Jason Simpson was never a suspect during the lengthy and internationally publicized trial of his father O. J. Simpson for the murders. He came under scrutiny in 2012 after the publication of 'O.J. Is Innocent And I Can Prove It', in which Dear mentioned interesting details on his 18-year-long investigation on the two murders, including his list of suspects, his visits to the crime scene and other relevant places, and the interviews he conducted. He established a clear timeline of the events, collected evidence and debunked alibis to subvert false assumptions made by the LAPD. He claimed that it was not O. J. Simpson, but his son Jason, who committed the crimes in a fit of rage and that his father visited the scene of the murders after the event. The claim created a media sensation which made him the focus of gossip tabloids overnight.

Rise to Stardom

In his book, William C. Dear provided a number of indirect evidences to support his claim that Jason Simpson was the person who committed the murders. One of the claims he made was that Jason had a past history of violent outbursts and was diagnosed with 'intermittent rage disorder', better known as Jekyll and Hyde syndrome. He also found a diary entry, which has later been identified by handwriting experts to be written by Jason, describing the writer to be three different persons. The note also mentions that the writer will go as far as killing anyone who hurt his loved ones. Dear even combed through Jason's trash cans during his search and found out that he was given the drug Depakote to control his rage and seizures. He also provided proof that Jason had given in to alcohol and drug abuse when he was 14 years old. According to police reports, he was arrested at least four times for reasons such as DUI, driving with a suspended license and assault with a deadly weapon.

Controversies & Scandals

Furthermore, Jason Simpson’s medical records reveal at least three suicide attempts. He had previously injured a person and had almost killed his girlfriend with a knife during a heated argument. Six months before the murder, he had to seek emergency treatment after being run out of his prescribed drugs, which caused him hear voices of people who weren't there. Interestingly, the very day Nicole Brown was murdered, she and her family were expected to dine at the restaurant where Jason was working, but changed plans apparently without his knowledge. While Jason claimed to be working at the restaurant when the crime was committed, his time card was hand-written instead of being in print. Some of the items found at the crime scene, like a knit cap, a bloody glove and a knife are now thought to be Jason's. While forensic evidence did not match with O. J., Jason was never tested to confirm his innocence. Also, there were signs of physical violence on the crime scene, but O. J. had only a single cut in his body, while Jason was not checked at all.
