Being a daughter of parents associated with the entertainment industry, the glitz, the glamour, and the attention of the paparazzi was nothing new to her. Having a keen interest in singing since her early days, Jane followed in the footsteps of her parents and soon entered the world of entertainment. She participated in the eleventh season of ‘American Idol,’ which premiered on January 18, 2012, on ‘Fox.’ She was subjected to criticism, as many said that she just seemed to have given an interview, instead of waiting outside the studio like the other contestants. The show, which had Jennifer Lopez, Randy Jackson, and Steven Tyler as judges, saw her singing Bonnie Raitt's song ‘Something to Talk About,’ in the first round of the Hollywood auditions of the contest, held at the ‘Pasadena Civic Auditorium’ in Pasadena, California, from December 12, 2011. However, she failed to reach the second round and was sent back home. Prior to this, she had intermittently worked as a waitress for around six years.
Determined to take her singing career forward, Jane became the frontwoman of her band, ‘The Jane Carrey Band,’ and performed at various places. She performed songs such as ‘Sexy Man in a Death Metal Band,’ ‘Blank Face,’ ‘Wishing and Waiting,’ ‘Oh Lover,’ ‘Sticky Situation,’ and ‘Simple Beauty.’ Among these, ‘Sticky Situation’ and ‘Simple Beauty’ reaped thousands of views on ‘YouTube.’ The 2017 short biographical documentary on Jim Carrey, titled ‘Jim Carrey: I Needed Color’ and starring the superstar himself, saw Jane working as a playback singer.
Jane has also worked for various fund raisers on autism, along with her father and his ex-girlfriend, the American actor and anti-vaccine activist Jenny McCarthy. Jane has a decent social media presence. Her Twitter account ‘janecarrey23,’ which she opened in January 2009, has already garnered over 160,000 followers.
She was born on September 6, 1987, in Los Angeles, California, USA, to superstar Jim Carrey and his first wife Melissa, an actor and producer. Her parents divorced on December 11, 1995, when she was just eight years old. She is of French, Irish, and Scottish descent from her father’s side and a mix of English, German, Austrian, Welsh, Dutch, Danish, Israeli and Scottish descent from her mother’s side.
On November 14, 2009, she married Alex Santana, the lead singer of the metal band ‘Blood Money.’ The couple was blessed with a son, Jackson Riley Santana, on February 26, 2010. Breaking the news of his daughter’s pregnancy, Jim stated in July 2009, "I'm very excited. Jane is going to be a great mom." After his grandson’s birth, Jim shared his joy on his ‘Twitter’ account that stated, "Jackson Riley Santana, My Grandson, Born today! This is what 7lbs.11oz. of California dynamite looks like!". However, Jane’s marriage failed after a while, and on October 20, 2011, following 10 months of separation, Jane filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. Jane, who is quite close to her father, was seen visiting the set of her father’s 2011 film ‘Mr. Popper’s Penguins,’ in New York, with her son, Jackson.
