James Corden

James Corden is married to television producer Julia Carey, with whom he has two children.

As a philanthropist, he has supported various organizations such as the UNICEF and Teenage Cancer Trust. For his generosity, he is often known as one of the ‘nicest stars of Britain’.

He currently lives in Malibu, California, in the US.

James Kimberley Corden was born on 22 August 1978 in Hillingdon, Greater London, in the UK. His father Malcolm Corden, used to work as a musician in the Royal Air Force Band, while his mother, Margaret, was a social worker. He grew up in Hazlemere, in Buckinghamshire. He has two sisters as well.

He attended Park Middle School and Holmer Green Upper School. Though he was raised in a Salvation Army Church, he has stated he doesn’t identify as a Christian any longer. He also studied drama at the Jackie Palmer Stage.

At the beginning of his career, James Corden played small roles in several TV shows such as ‘Boyz Unlimited’, ‘Teachers’, ‘Hollyoaks’, ‘Little Britain’, and ‘Dalzien and Pascoe’. He also made appearances in films, such as ‘Whatever Happened to Harold Smith’ (1999) and ‘Curse of the Gods’ (2002).

He gained popularity for his role in ‘Fat Friends’, a popular British drama series that aired on iTV from the year 2000. The show was an average success.

In 2007, he co-produced as well as played an important role in ’Gavin & Stacey’ a British romantic comedy. The show gained huge prominence worldwide, and was also broadcast in many countries including Australia, New Zealand, Sweden and the Netherlands. It also won several important awards and nominations.

Over the ensuing years, he appeared in several films such as ‘The History Boys’ (2006), ‘Started for Ten’ (2006), and ‘How to Lose Friends and Alienate People’ (2008). He played a lead role in ‘Lesbian Vampire Killers’ in 2009, though the film wasn’t much of a success.

In 2010, he started hosting the show ‘A League of Their Own’, a British sports based game show, which began airing from May. The same year, he appeared in a supporting role in ‘Gulliver’s Travels’, an American adventure fantasy comedy, which was directed by Rob Letterman. The film became a commercial success. He also played a voice role in the German animated film ‘Animals United’.

’Fat friends’ a British drama series, can be regarded as the first major work in James Corden’s career. Created by Kal Mellor, the series focuses on the lives of few slimming club members, and shows how their weight has impacted their lives. It was an average success and won a few awards.

The TV series ’Gavin & Stacey’, which started airing in 2007, is one of the most significant works in James Corden’s career. The show, which was created by Corden himself along with Ruth Jones, was directed by Christine Gernon and starred actors such as Matthew Home, Joanna Page, and Ruth Jones along with Corden. The show was a huge success and became popular worldwide. It was broadcast in several countries. It won awards such as the ‘British Academy Television Award’ and the ‘British Comedy Award’. Corden won a total of four awards for the series.

James Corden played the lead role in ‘The Wrong Mans,’ a British comedy drama series which aired from 2013. Created by Corden himself along with Matthew Baynton, it was directed by Jim Field Smith, and starred Baynton and Corden besides Sarah Solemani, Tom Basden, Paul Cawley, and Chandeep Uppal. The show received mostly positive reviews, and also won a ‘Royal Television Society Award’.

Corden played an important role in ‘Into the Woods’, an American musical fantasy film, which was directed and produced by Rob Marshall. The film starred actors such as Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Anna Kendrick, and Chris Pine along with Corden. The film is about a childless couple who is on a mission to put an end to a curse which was put on them by a witch. The film became a commercial success, and also received three Oscar nominations. It won four awards in total.

He appeared in the British crime thriller film ‘Kill Your Friends’, which is among his most important works. Directed by Owen Harris, the film also included actors Nicholas Hoult, Georgia King, Craig Roberts, and Jim Piddock.
