Jake Sims was born in Bristol, England on November 26, 1994. His mother Teresa Alexander and sister Sydney Sims have always supported him in his journey; they have been seen together several times in concerts and live shows beside him.
Jake had been previously involved in a drug-related incident where he was photographed lying in a daze after allegedly snorting the Class A drug ‘Ketamine’. He was also once involved in a controversy on ‘Twitter’ where he made some comments regarding selling and using drugs.
Jake Sims became interested in music at a very early age and studied music to learn the nuances. At the mere age of four, he first performed in front of an audience when he appeared in one of Michael Barrymore’s show and sang ‘You are my Sunshine’, one of the most iconic songs of all time written by Jimmie Davis and Charles Mitchell. He eventually started making covers of popular songs and posted them on his social media platforms as well as on ‘Soundcloud’ and ‘iTunes’.
Some of the popular covers he posted were of ‘Too Close’, ‘Cupid's Chokehold’, ‘Bassline Junkie’, ‘Havana,’ and ‘Dark Times’. He soon managed to build his own network of followers on social media and music platforms. His covers received several hundreds of views and downloads.
He reached the peak of his career when he auditioned for the British reality television music competition ‘The X Factor’ in 2014. Jake sang two songs during his audition: ‘Superstition’ from Stevie Wonder in his room audition, and later in the arena, he sang ‘When the Sun Goes Down’ by the English indie rock band ‘Arctic Monkeys’. He was rejected at the ‘bootcamp’ stage along with James Graham, Charlie Jones, Casey Johnson, Barclay Beales, Reece Bibby, Tom Mann, and Chris Leonard. However, the producer of the show Simon Cowell (who was also one of the judges) and judges Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, Mel B, and Louis Walsh decided to put all of them together in a boy band as they felt that the boys would be more effective as a team rather than as individuals. After the formation of the band Stereo Kicks, the eight members performed their first song ‘Run’ by Snow Patrol which received an overwhelming response from the audience as well as a standing ovation from the judges.
After their elimination from the show, the band remained together for a year and released their first single titled ‘Love Me So’ on 21 June 2015 through James Grant Music. The song was a huge hit for a boy band debut and reached number 31 on the UK Singles Chart after selling 15,755 copies. It also reached number 19 on the Scotland Singles Charts and debuted at number 80 in Ireland (IRMA). However, much to the frustration of the band members including Jake, they failed to attract a singing contract from any big company. This forced them to part ways after being together for over a year. Since then, Jake has been using various social media and music platforms to release his covers as well as originals and has been able to form his own fanbase.
