Jacob Whitesides was born on November 11, 1997 in Knoxville, Tennessee. His mother’s name is Becky and he has a younger sister named Sierra. Raised in Sevierville, Whitesides was an average child, a mediocre in everything be it sports or education. However, at the juncture of teenage, something happened, something magical that turned the life of this nascent singer. Until now a sports enthusiast, a chance visit to Chris Stapleton concert changed everything for Whitesides. Inspired by the Stapleton, he picked up his first guitar and through internet, taught himself to play three songs. His father, a band artist, encouraged Whitesides budding talent for music and often brought him onstage. Following his parents’ split, Whitesides stayed with his mother and sister. It was during this turbulent emotional phase that Whitesides seriously considered pursuing music professionally. He started off by posting lo-fi covers on YouTube and progressed to posting videos. On the romantic front, Whitesides was in a relationship with Bea Miller from 2015 to 2016.
Jacob Whitesides started off by posting lo-fi covers on YouTube. Humble as he was, he was overwhelmed by the response and made it a point to reply to each of his fans. With a steady increase in his online presence and popularity, Whitesides first big break came in when he was offered a TV talent show ‘The X Factor’ in 2012. Though he got an early exit, the experience was extremely rewarding as he got a glimpse of how music industry worked. Despite the short duration, the show earned him national attention. Two years later, in 2014, Whitesides released his first-ever EP, 3AM, a collection of ballad renditions of songs by John Legend, John Mayer, Ed Sheeran, and more. It reached number 26 on the Billboard 200 and number 2 on the Independent Albums chart. Following the stupendous success of his first EP, Whitesides released his second EP ‘A Piece of Me’ on February 14, 2015. The second EP was more of a coming-of-age for Whitesides as it gave him the confidence to pen pop songs of his own. His creative outpouring reflected a side of him, his life and his beliefs. Each of his songs was connected to his life events.
In May 2015, Whitesides partnered with BMG to come up with his own label, ‘Double U Records’. Under it, he released his third EP ‘Faces on Film’. Concurrently, he made his debut on the prestigious ‘Good Morning America’ show where he performed his single ‘Secrets’. On September 8, 2016, he released his debut album ‘Why?’, a powerful thirteen-track collection, brimming with standouts like the finger-clicked soul-pop of ‘Lovesick’ and ‘You Told Me So’. It debuted and peaked at number 25 on the Billboard Independent charts. Lately, in 2017, he released a video of his new song ‘The Letters’.
