J. J. Totah was born on August 5, 2001 in Sacramento, California to Suheil Totah and Christine Totah. His father is of Palestinian descent, while his mother is half Lebanese, and half Irish-Italian. He has an autistic elder brother Alex and a younger sister Camille. Totah spent much of his early years in Davis, California. Bitten by the acting bug way too early in life, he started making YouTube videos at the age of six and soon became involved in theatre. Just after hitting the age of ten he made his debut as an actor. Touted as one of the most promising young talents of America, Totah has been shouldering a lot of responsibility to bring to forefront good entertainment despite his young age. Acting apart, he is also an active campaigner of human rights. Totah serves as the celebrity ambassador for GLAAD, and keenly supports GLSEN, an organization that champions LGBTQ issues in schools. On GLAAD Spirit Day, he wore purple to support LGBTQ kids. He has been quoted stating that ‘It’s okay to be who you are and just have fun’. He is a big fan of Kim Kardashian.

Personal Life

With regards to J. J. Totah, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that the supremely talented boy was born to entertain! Realizing his passion for entertainment early in his life, he started making YouTube videos by the age of six and soon became vigorously involved in theatre. By 11, Totah had made his debut in acting for the first production of AwesomenessTV as ‘Lil Dictator’. Immediately thereafter, he was cast as ‘Stuart Wooten’ in the Disney Channel’s Original series ‘Jessie’. Soon thereafter, he starred in several notable television series including, FOX’s ‘Glee’ and ‘New Girl’, Disney's ‘Liv and Maddie’ and the animated series ‘Sofia the First’,’ ‘2 Broke Girls’ and ‘The Exes’. He found a recurring role in the ABC’s television show ‘Back in the Game’ which brought him to limelight.

Career

In 2016, Totah gave a riveting performance in Chris Kelly's award-winning feature film ‘Other People’. The film premiered at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival. Totah’s brilliant performance earned him a spot at ‘Variety’ magazine’s 2016 Breakout Stars portfolio and In Style Magazine’s 10 Rising Stars to Watch in addition to being named the Most Inspirational Person at Sundance. Almost instantly, he became a household name to be reckoned with. Currently, Totah plays Mindy Kaling’s son in the pilot for NBC’s comedy ‘Champions’ from Universal TV Kaling International and 3 Arts Entertainment. He has recently wrapped up two major feature films, Sony Pictures and Marvel Studio's highly anticipated reboot ‘Spider-man: Homecoming’ and Disney's ‘Magic Camp’. His future projects include Mark Rosman's family film, ‘Time Toys’, and Netflix's detective comedy, ‘Handsome’. Acting apart, Totah has tried his hand at writing for television and films as well. At the age of 15, he sold his first ever television pitch to Universal Television/NBC. Titled ‘Aunt Nancy’, the single camera sitcom had Totah playing multiple roles, of a writer cum producer cum actor.
