Hana Mae Lee

Hana Mae Lee was born on September 28, 1988 in California, U.S. She is of Korean and Japanese ancestry, and the influence of her Korean roots is often reflected in her personality—she even performed a Korean folk song at her audition for ‘Perfect Pitch!’ Her mom ran her own fashion boutique and her father worked for the police. Hana Mae was interested in modeling and acting from a young age but her parents did not support her initially. It was expected that she either venture into fashion designing as her mom, or join the police like her dad. While the girl had no interest in police work, she was naturally drawn towards fashion and proceeded to study fashion design at the Otis College of Art and Design. She also did acting assignments side by side. Even after becoming a fashion designer, she still harbored hopes of an acting career. Eventually, as her acting career began to thrive, her parents too became supportive of her career choice. Not much is known about the beautiful lady’s love life though it is often speculated that she is dating ‘Pitch Perfect’ co-star, Utkarsh Ambudkar.

Hana Mae Lee stepped into the glamour world at the young age of 16 when she began modeling. Blessed with a high level of confidence and grace along with beauty, the teenager took the fashion world by storm and appeared in many popular magazines like ‘SOMA,’ ‘Elle,’ and ‘Teen Vogue.’ She also worked with several well-known brands like Honda, Cherry Coke, and Midori which earned her considerable fame as a model. However, it was her stint as an actress that actually catapulted her to mainstream popularity and earned her scores of doting fans. After appearing in cameos and minor roles in several TV productions, she was cast as Lilly Okanakamura in the musical comedy film ‘Pitch Perfect’ in 2012. The film was a critical as well as commercial success and effectively established Hana Mae as an emerging young actress to reckon with. In 2015, she reprised her role in the movie’s sequel ‘Pitch Perfect 2.’

In addition to being an actress and a comedienne, Hana Mae Lee is also a renowned fashion designer. Professionally qualified with a degree in fashion design, she definitely has a penchant for designing clothes and accessories! She owns her own fashion line titled Hanamahn, which means “just one” in Korean. She has designed apparels, costumes, and also a variety of fashion items in leather. She is deeply inspired by the works of Alexander McQueen, and feels that he has inspired her to become more artistic with her clothes.
